The Greyhounds finished at the top stop in the Northwest League and are ranked #3 overall. Heppner started the first set of the match strong, taking the lead as Gaston struggled to get their game going. Heppner stayed strong until the end but ultimately lost 24-26. There was a great defensive effort on Hep- pner’s end, and Gaston seemed beatable. The team, “Girls Got Game,” remained undefeated in all nine games of their AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) league in Hermiston. “It was a great season of soccer for these girls. Not pictured: Savanna Greenup. -Contributed photo The Heppner High School cross-country teams took on all comers at dis- trict championships and are ready to move on to contend for top spots in the state championships this Saturday. The high school teams traveled to Pendleton on Oct. 28 for the 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 Cham- pionships. The Heppner men’s team took second in the 5,000 meter varsity race with a score of 57, while the women placed fifth with a score of 121. All of the varsity run- ners have qualified for the OSAA 3A/2A/1A State Championships and will travel to Lane Community College in Eugene this Sat- urday, Nov. 5. The women’s 5,000 Meters 3A/2A/1A will take place at 10 a.m., while the men will run in the 5,000 Meters 2A/1A at 10:35. Heppner High School varsity runners are Carson Greenwood, Cooper Wight, Grady Greenwood, Jacob Finch, Kristian Takagi, Nate Ellsworth, Owen Cun- ningham, Trevor Nichols, Arianna Worden, Irelynn Kollman, Lily Nichols, Riley Archer, Saige Jensen and Sierra Greenup.
