Goody bags await- ed the assortment of cute and scary costumes wel- comed into the entry area. The contest resolved on Halloween ended with three winners who came closest with their guesses to the numbers of candy corns in three separate jars. Dorothy Green won the largest jar with her guess, Mary Riggs was second so won the next largest jar, and Faye Seitz-Wilson took third place and the smallest jar with her guess. The community on the hill have pretty realistic views of life, so having to say goodbye to Bonnie Gates, who moved away last month, created a last- ing sadness, but they were pleased, on the other hand, to welcome back a familiar face. Carolyn Hall moved in on October 11. Carolyn was back in time for some enjoyable activities with the neigh- bors. For instance, Mary Riggs celebrated her 77 th birthday with everyone on the 31 st . (Yes, Mary was a Halloween baby.) This Friday, everyone will be enjoying another birthday lunch when Raul Silva celebrates his 73 rd . (Yes, he seems to be almost a youngster.) And closing out November birthday lunches will be the menu that Floss Watkins chooses for her 90 th celebration on the 30 th . (Yes, she will be the one with the largest smile.) Preparing those birth- day lunches and all the other menus will be cook- stand-ins Kim Henrichs and Samarra Van Doorn-Fisher unless a new cook is hired this month. Difficult for the community was also saying goodbye to their great cook and her assistant, as they both moved to other em- ployment, so applications for the positions are now being sought and accepted.
