Winners announced for St. Patrick’s Day games Winners of the Welly To s s , B e d R a c e a n d O’Planky team relay race held on Mar. 17 have been announced by the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. The Welly Toss offers individual, men’s, wom- en’s and team competitions consisting of boots being thrown both directions. The winners in the men’s competition were Jeromy Wilson, first place, throw- ing 86.1 feet and Fabian Guerra in second with a 73.2 toss. In the women’s competition, first place went to Jessica Lentz with 54.5 and second place to Jennifer Wilson with 49.7. Team competition resulted in a tie for first place be- tween two teams at 258.8 feet. The Extinguishers team members, Jon Ellis, Ben Firgens, Brian Spivey and team captain, Jeromy Wilson, tied with the Lucky Ones with team mates Wacy Coil, Quin Grogan, Lane Bailey and team captain, Kevin Murray. Third place went to Twinkie Tyrants with team members, Jordin Seekins, Nick Schramm, Cody Mawhinney and An- drea Holmquist, who threw 241.5 feet. The O’Planky team re- lay race, brought back again this year, garnered a lot of support from the spectators who were waiting for the parade to come through town. Voices could be heard cheering for each team and you heard a “left, right” in the background from the teams as they attempted to move their team for- ward with each step. Three teams competed, with The Extinguishers team coming in first. The Extinguishers team members were Jon Ellis, Ben Firgens, Jennifer Wilson and Jeromy Wilson. The other teams were The Lucky Ones with team players Shane Lazinka, Brandon Seitz, Wacy Coil and Lane Bailey and the Marching Mommas with team mates Kassandra Ken- nedy, Pam Cutsforth, Gina Wilson and Angela Jones. According to the competi- tors, it wasn’t about the winning, finishing the race was what counted the most. The Bed Race was brought back to the St. Patrick’s weekend for 2018 with two teams racing to the end of the line. It was be- tween Twinkie Tyrants and Marching Mommas with the Twinkie Tyrants com- ing out ahead in the end. It is planned to bring the bed race back again next year. According to a source, the participants provided the spectators with great entertainment which in- cluded much cheering and laughter. Chamber announcements and upcoming events Starting Sunday, Mar. 18, 5:30-7 p.m., a 10-week class on Love and Respect sponsored by Heppner Christian Church. This class is entitled The Love she Most Desires and the Respect he Desperately Needs. The class will in- clude videos, a book and supportive interaction. Cost is $10 for the book and childcare will be provided (those needing childcare are asked to sign up prior to the class to ensure that there is enough help).
