Winners announced for St.
Patrick’s Day games
Winners of the Welly
To s s , B e d R a c e a n d
O’Planky team relay race
held on Mar. 17 have been
announced by the Heppner
Chamber of Commerce.
The Welly Toss offers
individual, men’s, wom-
en’s and team competitions
consisting of boots being
thrown both directions.
The winners in the men’s
competition were Jeromy
Wilson, first place, throw-
ing 86.1 feet and Fabian
Guerra in second with a
73.2 toss. In the women’s
competition, first place
went to Jessica Lentz with
54.5 and second place to
Jennifer Wilson with 49.7.
Team competition resulted
in a tie for first place be-
tween two teams at 258.8
feet. The Extinguishers
team members, Jon Ellis,
Ben Firgens, Brian Spivey
and team captain, Jeromy
Wilson, tied with the Lucky
Ones with team mates Wacy
Coil, Quin Grogan, Lane
Bailey and team captain,
Kevin Murray. Third place
went to Twinkie Tyrants
with team members, Jordin
Seekins, Nick Schramm,
Cody Mawhinney and An-
drea Holmquist, who threw
241.5 feet.
The O’Planky team re-
lay race, brought back again
this year, garnered a lot of
support from the spectators
who were waiting for the
parade to come through
town. Voices could be heard
cheering for each team and
you heard a “left, right” in
the background from the
teams as they attempted
to move their team for-
ward with each step. Three
teams competed, with The
Extinguishers team coming
in first. The Extinguishers
team members were Jon
Ellis, Ben Firgens, Jennifer
Wilson and Jeromy Wilson.
The other teams were The
Lucky Ones with team
players Shane Lazinka,
Brandon Seitz, Wacy Coil
and Lane Bailey and the
Marching Mommas with
team mates Kassandra Ken-
nedy, Pam Cutsforth, Gina
Wilson and Angela Jones.
According to the competi-
tors, it wasn’t about the
winning, finishing the race
was what counted the most.
The Bed Race was
brought back to the St.
Patrick’s weekend for 2018
with two teams racing to the
end of the line. It was be-
tween Twinkie Tyrants and
Marching Mommas with
the Twinkie Tyrants com-
ing out ahead in the end. It
is planned to bring the bed
race back again next year.
According to a source,
the participants provided
the spectators with great
entertainment which in-
cluded much cheering and
laughter.
