SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Wrestlers finish season at district meet in Joseph Heppner/Ione wres- tlers took to the mats at the OSAA 2A/1A Special District 4 meet in Joseph. Zach Bredfield, in the 145 division, is the only Mus- tang that will travel to the state meet. Other team members that competed at the district level are Trevor Antonucci and Suzanneah Cason in the 120 division; Leo Waite in the 126 division and Carson Brosnan and Charles Cason in the 160 division. Trevor Antonucci and Leo Waite both scored 18 points for the team, Zach Bredfield scored 17, Carson Brosnan scored 10 and Charles Ca- son scored five points for the team. They defeated the Weston-McEwen Tiger- scots 71-48 and then beat the Culver Bulldogs 54-28. In the rematch of a game that Heppner won by only one point earlier in the season, the Mustangs domi- nated the game at Athena from the opening tipoff. The Mustangs led after the first quarter 14-11. They then blew open the game with a 27 point second quarter. The Mus- tangs scorched the nets with fine outside shooting and got easy baskets when they broke the Weston-McEwen press. The defense held the Tigerscots to 17 points in the quarter and Heppner led the game at halftime 41-28. The teams played near- ly even in the third quarter as Heppner scored 12 points and the Tigerscots had 10. Heppner finished off their opponents in the final frame as they were able to handle the defensive pressure and keep control of the ball at the end. The Mustangs outscored the Tigerscots 18-10 in the quarter to get the win by the score of 71-48. Kevin Smith led the team in scoring with 19 points. He also had 11 re- bounds, two blocks and an assist in the game. Trent Smith hit six three-pointers to finish the game with 18. He also recorded three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Wyatt Steagall and Hunter Nichols each scored six points in the game. Steagall also had eight rebounds while Nichols added four rebounds and three assists. Alex Lindsay finished with four points, six rebounds, two assists and one block for the team. McAninch had four rebounds and blocked four Tigerscot shot attempts and Derek Howard had a rebound. Beau Wolters had two rebounds and a blocked shot for the Mustangs. In the home contest against the Culver Bull- dogs, the outcome was never in doubt. He also had six rebounds, two assist and two steals in the game. Steagall followed with eight points and had two rebounds. Carter was next with six points, four rebounds and 3 assist for the team. Kevin Smith, Nichols, McCurry and Logan Burri- ght each scored 5 points for the Mustangs. Smith also had a rebound and blocked two shots. Nichols recorded three rebounds, two assists and a steal for the team while McCurry had five re- bounds, blocked two shots and Burright had a rebound. Lindsay filled up the stat sheet as he had three points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and blocked two shots. McAninch scored two points, had four re- bounds, one assist and two shot blocks. Dougherty and Derek Howard scored one point each. Dougherty also had a rebound while Derek recorded a rebound and he blocked a shot. Dakota Howard had two rebounds and Wolters one for the Mustangs. The Mustangs (11-7,6- 1) host the Pilot Rock Rock- ets this Friday night in an important Columbia Basin Conference matchup. CEU credits available!
