Visitation will be Thursday, May 5, at 9:30 a.m. in the kindergarten classroom. Stu- dents will do an activity with the teacher, eat lunch and play at recess. Students can be picked up at noon. Parents are asked to ill out enrollment papers in the ofice. They will need to bring birth certiicates, immuni- zation papers, Social Security cards and $2 for students to eat lunch. The funding would cover 1,613 credit hours accord- ing to the district office. Field trips for all grades are also covered with $13,000 of the funding and the re- maining $25,000 will be used for wraparound ser- vices including two school resource officers, three community counselors, one nurse, two CARE coordina- tors, one early childhood CARE coordinator and one “The district believes that with the continued support of the Morrow Education Foundation, we are able to continue to pro- vide the students of Morrow County School District the best opportunities avail- able,” Dirksen said. The Morrow Education Foundation has disbursed over $620,000 to the Mor- row County School Dis- trict since 2014 and over $61,000 to the Ione School District over the same time period. Port of Morrow gen- eral manager Gary Neal said the funds are largely from the Columbia River Enterprise Zone payments made specifically toward improving education in Morrow County. “We are working to- ward enhancing communi- ties and supporting livabil- ity and education programs in Morrow County,” Neal said. The beginning team took third place and the Ione chapter had a clean sweep in beginning tractor driving. In tractor driv- ing, irst went to Austin Morter, second to Anthony Rietmann and third to Tyson Epperson. The Ag Mechanics team (pic- tured) consisted of Austin Morter, Anthony Rietmann, Tyson Epperson, Aaron Smythe, JD Aleksa, Donald McElligott and Jorge Aguilar. -Photo by Erin Heideman Historical society views history through the Columbia Gorge On Friday, April 15, members of the Morrow County Historical Society participated in an all-day trip to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Mu- seum Center, located in The Dalles, OR. The group was able to view displays of the out-itting of the Lewis & Clark expedition, Ice Age floods of the Columbia River Gorge, the work of J.E. Freemont (topographic mapmakers for the U.S. Army) who mapped a large part of the central western portion of the U.S. from 1843-1884 (important in the acquiring new territory) and inally a “Birds of Prey” display. The local Unit- ed States Fish and Game rangers have adopted four permanently disabled rap- tors—a rough-shouldered hawk, a red-tailed hawk and two bald eagles. These birds are used to educate the public. Members say other his- torical society activities are in “the works.” For more information, contact Dave DeMayo, 676-8017. Kinzua Lunch Meeting The Kinzua Lunch was held at Service Creek on April 22. Those attending were Lavonne and Bob Slinkard, John Day; Mary Lee Britt, Charles and Janet Nelson, Pat Hyatt, John and Midge Geer, and Marilyn Garcia, Fossil; Gael Liptak, Condon; Bonnie Campbell, Heppner; Tom, Marilyn and Bill Ledford, Prineville; and last but not least Jim Craig, Boardman. The group shared a meal, caught up on visiting, and made plans for the next three months. The All School Reunion will be May 28 in Fossil and the Kinzua Reunion June18 in Fossil, so the next Kinzua Lunch will be July 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the OHV Park on the Spray-Heppner Highway.
