I Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, November 5, 2014 - THREE Heppner schools rise to Pink Day challenge On Oct. 16, Heppner Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) invited the elementary school, high school and the Heppner community to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Heppner FBLA is still selling breast cancer awareness items raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Contact FBLA advisor Jeannie Collins at HHS for questions, or donations. Bottom: Pink was cool at the high school on Oct. 16. -Contributed photos HES celebrates healthy choices During the last week o f October, the Heppner Elementary students c e l ebrated Red Ribbon Week, which was started in 1988. During Red Ribbon Week, students from around the country pledge to be drug- free. The them e this year was ‘i have the Pow er to be Drug Free” and was spon sored by the HES Student Council and HES Parent Teacher Club. The student co u n cil gave each student a brace let, ribbon and pencil, and each day a drawing was held for additional prizes. A ll the students par ticipated in a Power Hands Project in which each stu dent traced and cut out their hand; the hand tracings were then put on a poster to make the shape o f a Red Ribbon. Students also entered a writing and drawing contest to explain how they have the power to be drug-free.
