Heppner schools rise to Pink
Day challenge
On Oct. 16, Heppner Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) invited the elementary
school, high school and the Heppner community to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. The Heppner FBLA is still selling breast cancer awareness items raising
money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Contact FBLA advisor Jeannie Collins at HHS
for questions, or donations. Top: Heppner Elementary students put a splash of pink on the

HES celebrates healthy choices
During the last week
o f October, the Heppner
Elementary students c e l
ebrated Red Ribbon Week,
which was started in 1988.
During Red Ribbon Week,
students from around the
country pledge to be drug-
free.
The them e this year
was ‘i have the Pow er to be
Drug Free” and was spon
sored by the HES Student
Council and HES Parent
Teacher Club.
The student co u n cil
gave each student a brace
let, ribbon and pencil, and
each day a drawing was
held for additional prizes.
A ll the students par
ticipated in a Power Hands
Project in which each stu
dent traced and cut out their
hand; the hand tracings
were then put on a poster
to make the shape o f a Red
Ribbon.
Students also entered a
writing and drawing contest
to explain how they have the
power to be drug-free. The
