Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Mustang volleyball wraps up regular season with senior night The Heppner Mustang Volleyball team won their final home m atch o f the season by d efeatin g the Stanfield Tigers 3-0 on se nior night. With the help of their teammates, the three Hep pner seniors left the court for the final time w ith a vic tory. The senior players— Maddie Lindsay, Kelly Wil son and Paige Grieb— were recognized and honored before the match started. These three girls have been m ajor contributors to the volleyball program their entire high-school careers. They all brought a lot to the program both on and off the court and will be missed in the future. Senior manager Jenny Marick was also recognized before the match started for all o f her contributions to the team. In the first set w ith the T igers, H eppner led from start to finish. Onna DeLoach started it off by serving six straight points for the Mustangs. Morgan Correa then had a streak of six service points to extend the margin to 13-2. The lead continued to grow and the Mustangs won by a score o f 25-11. Solid play in the second set saw the team jump out to a quick lead and they never let up. Correa served well, going 16-17 w ith an ace. DeLoach was 7-11 with six big aces in the match and Sophie Grant was 7-8 with an ace. Paige Grieb went 2-2 and had an ace, and M addie Lindsay was 3-5. Grieb led the team in digs with 13. Maddie Lindsay and De Loach both followed with 10. Wilson had three and Grant, Correa and Jessica K em pkin had two each. Kaelyn Lindsay had one dig in the match. Wilson led the team in assists with 13 and Grant had eight. M addie Lindsay had nine powerful kills in the match. Kemp kin followed with five and DeLoach had four. Kaelyn Lindsay and C orrea had three kills each in the match and Wilson was next with two. Correa also had four big blocks and Kem pkin finished with two. T he M u sta n g s th en travelled to Union to take on the Bobcats. Heppner played very well for most of the match but ended up losing 3-2. T heir overall record is 15-7 and they are 6-3 in conference play. They fin ished the regular season at Culver Tuesday afternoon. The team will then play in the Columbia Basin Con ference tournament that is going to be held on Friday and Saturday at W eston- McEwen High School. Wednesday, October 22,2014 - FIVE Heppner “A” volleyball finishes season with near-perfect record The H eppner Junior High School “A” volleyball team finished its season with a 15-1 match record. They hosted the last tourna ment o f the season on Sat urday and defeated teams from lone, Boardman, Irri gon and Umatilla. The team is made up of eighth graders Claire G rieb, Jacee Cur- rin, Jaiden M ahoney and M adison Combe, as well as sixth-graders Kendall Dowdy and Sydney Wilson. The girls are coached by Mindy Wilson. Their only loss o f the season came after a long road trip to John Day. They lost a match to the Grant Union team there, but came back and beat them a week later. The beginning soils team of Alex Lindsay, Riley Gorham, Katlyn Harper, Nikki Shaw, Morgan Correa, Wyatt Steagall, Rian Wizner, Tay lor Nelson and Ethan Akers, w on first place in the district. The advanced team of Logan Grieb, Patrick Collins, Jake Lindsay, Kolby Currin, Tim Jaca, CJ Kindle and Ry lee Kollman, won second place. Alex Lindsay had the highest overall score for the contest at 126 and Rilcv Gorham followed close behind with 125.
