Funeral Notice John Shepherd— A Celebration of Life is planned for former Heppner resident John Shepherd this Sunday, Sept. 28, at 12:30 p.m. at Mallory Seed Orchard, past Ditch Creek, Heppner. John passed away July 16, 2013. Heppner Ranger District Forest Service employees will be presenting a plaque in his memory. Death Notice Marlene C. Peterson— Marlene C. Peterson, 82, of Heppner died Monday, September 22, 2014 in Portland. She was bom April 22, 1932 in Fairfield, CA. It ’s game night fun and Rick Drake at the pulpit this week at HUMC It’s stacking up to be a busy week at Heppner United Methodist Church. Wednesday at noon, volunteers from HUMC will help prep and serve lunch at St. Patrick's Senior Center on Main St. Wednesday night, be ginning at 6:30 p.m., Last Wednesday Game Night resumes after a summer hiatus. This is a community event and all are welcome to attend. Board and card games, along with Mexican Train dominoes, are just some of the games available for play. Pinochle players are needed. Refreshments are served and this event is free of charge. Families are welcome. On Sunday, Rick Drake leads the service with his message, “Power??? For What??”. Jean Brazell will lead the choir in “Come, Now is the Time for Wor ship” and liturgist Ellen Rollis will read from Exo dus, Philippians and Mat thew. Hymns will include “Guide Me O Great Jeho vah,” “O God Our Help in Ages Past,” and “All Hail the Power.” Following the service, coffee hour will be held in the community room. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Council's ‘strong-arm’ tactics don V guard citizens ’ best interests Over the Tee Cup Cross-country golf tournament results announced Tournament co-chair men Dave Gunderson and Dave Allstott report that 26 men participated in the annual Willow Creek Men's Cross Country Tournament on Sept. 21. The tournament is devoted to the memory of the late George Waterland, who was one o f Willow Creek Country Club’s most avid golfers. The results were as follows: Gross: 1. Greg Grant, 2. Email it to editor@rapidserve.net I Historical society plans annual meeting To its annual meeting in October, the Morrow County Historical Society extends an invitation to individuals who appreciate the importance and influ ence of history. Two topics at the Oct. 26 meeting at the SAGE Center in Boardman will be possible tours to sponsor and subjects to research for the 2015 Chronicles publi cation. Among its projects, the Morrow County His torical Society periodi cally offers history-related tours to the general public, as well as publishing the Chronicles collection of articles yearly. Entrance for the meet ing at the SAGE Center on that Sunday will be free. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. The Center will open at 1 p.m., and attendees will be welcome to arrive early and tour the facility. Two guest speakers will be one highlight of the meeting. Larry Lindsay will offer some history o f the Port o f Morrow from its inception when Lindsay be came an original member of its boatd of directors. Gary Neal, manager, will inform the group of contemporary activities at the Port. A final highlight at the center at 101 Olson Road will be an ice cream feed provided by the society. M em bership in the Morrow County Historical Society is not required for attendance at the yearly meeting, but everyone will be w elcom e to jo in the organization. Yearly dues are $5.
