DATED this 27th day of August, 2014 MORROW COUNTY P L A N N I N G DEPARTMENT Published: August 27,2014 Affidavit Boardman Fire District seeks to build fire station with $13.7 million bond Boardman Rural Fire Protection District Chair man Don Drayton has an nounced that the district has placed a general obli gation bond in the amount of $13,715 million on the November 4, 2014 ballot for voter approval. The money raised by the bond will fund the purchase of land at northeast Olsen and northeast Columbia and the construction of an emergency services sta tion. When complete, the approximately 38,668 square-foot structure is expected to house admin istrative offices for the fire district, living quar ters for on-duty firefighter and Student Firefighter Program attendees, class rooms, indoor and outdoor training areas, a Boardman sub-station for the Morrow County Sheriff’s Depart ment and apparatus bays. According to Drayton, the current fire station on S.W. Wilson Lane was de signed to serve a commu nity of 1,500 in the 1970s. The now 40-year-old building was remodeled in 1999. Drayton said that “having expanded to the boundaries of the current lot, assessing the needs of a growing district and look ing to the future, Board- man Rural Fire District directors are approaching the voters with this new station.” The new building will incorporate on-duty 24/7 staff, with volunteer and student opportunities in fire science education while addressing the needs of fire suppression and protection in the area. Boardman Rural Fire Protection District invites the public to Community Night Out, Thursday, Au gust 28, from 5-8 p.m. at the Boardman City Park located behind the post office on Boardman Av enue and Park Street. The event is co-hosted with Boardman Police Depart ment and Morrow County Health Services. Free hamburgers, ice-cream and bottled water will be served. Among other ac tivities, information about the fire station will be available. Everyone is invited "to help make this project become a real ity for the safety needs of today and in the years to come,” said a fire district news release. Boardman Rural Fire Protection District, formed in the early 1970’s, oper ates on a current levy of $0.74 per $1,000 assessed value. The district covers 330 square miles respond ing from the current sta tion on Wilson Lane and is manned daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with three substa tions staffed by volunteers.
