Reduced prices coach to $898 for assistant coaches to $1,766 for head coaches and $1,257 for assistant coaches at the fourth and final step. O u td o o r s c h o o l teachers’ extra duty pay, which is required of sixth- grade teachers, is $250 per year. The terms of extended c o n tra c ts w ere a lso released with music/band and special education teachers receiving five days’ extended contract; vocational agriculture-30 days extended contract or as recommended by the principal and approved by the superintendent; art and shop-three days extended; counseling at Heppner, Riverside and Irrigon junior/senior high schools-15 days extended; librarians at HJSH, Heppner Elementary, RJSH, 1JSHS, A.C. Houghton Elementary in Irrig o n and Sam Boardman Elementary-10 days. The board also voted to raise the school lunch prices for next year, but only by 10 cents, for elementary and junior/senior high school students, in order to "offset the continuing increases in the cost of food,” according to a board statement. The district says that the “federal ‘Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act,’ which reauthorized the National School Lunch program , requires the district to increase meal prices to meet federal equity pricing requirements.” Elem entary school lunch prices, currently $2.25, will be raised to $2.35 and junior/senior high school lunches will increase from $2.50 to $2.60. Reduced lunches will remain at 40 cents, as will adult lunches at $3 and milk at 40 cents. There will be no changes in the costs of elementary breakfasts at $ 1, junior/senior high school breakfasts at $1.25 and reduced price breakfasts at are set by the federal government. T h e b o a rd a ls o approved changes in the graduation requirements for a seven-period day and an eight-period day with regards to social studies requirements. Previously social studies requirements were specified as U.S. history, world history or government/economics. The specifics concerning s o c ia l s tu d ie s - U .S . History, world history or government/economics- were removed from the policy. Course requirements for a seven-period day include: English language arts-4 credits, mathematics at algebra I or above-3 credits, science (scientific inquiry with three lab experiences)-3 credits, social studies-3 credits, health-1 credit, arts (fine arts, world language, career and tech ed)-3 credits in any one course or a combination, career-education-1 credit, p h y sica l education-1 credit, electives-5 credits, total course credits-24. D e m o n s tra tio n o f proficiency is also required.
