Scott— Dorothy F. Scott, 84, of Heppner. died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at her home. She was born February 21. 1930 at Heppner. A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the 1 leppner Masonic Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at a location that will be announced at a later date. M c C la in “ M a c ” Lovett died from heart co m p licatio n s at home in The D alles, OR on Sunday. March 30, 2014. A Celebration of Life was held at Life in Christ Center in The Dalles on Saturday, April 5, at 1:30 p.m. M ac w as b o rn in Hermiston, OR to parents John and Erin Lovett on May 29, 1975. He attended Interfaith Christian School when he w a sn ’t hom e schooled. He graduated from lone High School in 1993. Mac also attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. OR. On March 25, 1995, Mac married a local girl. Shelly Huth in Hermiston, OR H is g ra n d fa th e r officiated the ceremony. Mac and Shelly attended First Christian Church and Life in Christ Center. He was employed by Home Depot. Survivors include: his wife. Shelly Lovett; son, Dorian Lovett; parents, John and Erin L ovett; and sisters, Jamie Lovett, Calley Lovett, and Ashlea Lovett Drewery. The Rev. Charles Knox The Rev. Charles Knox died on Friday, March 14. A Celebration of Life service was held on Tuesday, April 1, at 1 p.m. in the Salem First C hristian Church. Salem, OR. Interment was at Dallas Cemetery. Charles was born on Sept. 8, 1925, in Vinco, OK, the son of Ivan and Nellie Knox. Charles married Crystal Way land on Dec. 23, 1947. in Pasco, WA. He was a pastor to the churches in Falls City, Lebanon, Colfax, Heppner. Dallas and McMinnville. Charles also worked as an a p p r e n t ic e at Scott Funeral Home in M cM innville. For many years, he worked at Howell Edward Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem. Charles estimated he had officiated at many weddings and funerals in his time as a pastor. Charles had been a member of the Colfax Grange, served as Scout Master in Colfax, Heppner Masonic Lodge, and the first juv en ile counselor o f M orrow County, an honorary member of the Dallas Rotary as well as an intake counselor for Polk C o u nty J u v e n ile Department. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and rock hounding. Charles helped teach many young people how to water ski as part of youth group activities through the years. He really enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Charles is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Crystal; d a u g h te r, C h a r la in e ; daughter-in-law, Deanna Knox; three grandchildren, Jenifer Thorsted-Lowen, Brandon (Robyn) Knox, and Evan (Ashley) Knox; two great-grandchildren, Mathew and Kadin; sister, lean Kirk; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, and his sons. Baby Boy Knox in 1953 and Chuck Knox who died July 20 , 2012 . Over the Tee Cup Shared ministry Holy Methodist women plan sewing day for Week schedule Kenyan children The Shared Ministry of Hope Lutheran Church and All Saints Episcopal C h u rc h w ill o b s e rv e Palm/Passion Sunday on April 13 with a 10 a.m. service at Hope, including a procession with palm branches, communion and the reading of the Passion Gospel. Easter services will be held at All Saints this year, also beginning at 10 a.m. Thereafter the regular worship pattern o f first and third Sundays at Hope, second and fourth Sundays at All Saints will resume. M o n d a y th r o u g h Wednesday of Holy Week. Evening Prayer will be offered at All Saints at 5:30 p.m. nightly. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will be held jointly with the United Methodist Church, with T hursday’s service at All Saints and Friday's service at the Methodist Church, both beginning at 7 p.m. All are welcome. Local hospice plans program on grief The Pioneer Memorial Hospital Hospice team has announced that the public is invited to a six-week program on grief and loss. The program will begin Monday, April 14, from 3-4:30 p.m. in the hospice training room at the hospital. The focus of the program will be on grief, which can occur with the loss of a loved one or from other life events such as loss of a job, divorce, or an adverse change in health. People of all ages are invited to learn about grief in order to help themselves or someone they know. For questions, call Pioneer Memorial Hospice at 541-676-2946. Community lunch menu Nazarene and Seventh-day Adventist church members will serve lunch on Wednesday, April 16, at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. The meal will be an Easter dinner o f ham or lamb, potatoes au gratin, green beans, applesauce, hot rolls, and angel food cake. Milk is served at each meal. Suggested donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change. The Heppner United Methodist Women will host a sewing day for the children of Kenya on Friday, April 25, at the church. The event will begin at 9 a.m. in the church's co m m unity room . The ladies invite all sewers—not only Methodists—to come out and help them make pillowcase dresses that will be delivered to children in Kenya by M ethodist missionaries in July. Non-sewers are also invited, as event coordinator Patty Nance stresses that there are multiple ways to help. The group is in need of helpers who can iron, sew on buttons or bits of lace, cut out fabric, etc. Anyone looking to help by lending a sewing machine, donating p illo w c a se s or co tto n fabric, or bringing buttons and other embellishments is also welcome. As always, participants are also welcome to bring a H eppner is g ettin g ready for the 16lh year of sponsoring the Eastern Oregon Walk MS. The walk will take place Aprii 26 at 10 a.m. in Heppner. The April 1 play day was hosted by the Tuesday L adies 2014 Board of Directors; breakfast was served by Corol Mitchell/ Pat Edmundson and crew. During the breakfast the spring biannual meeting of the club was held. Nineteen ladies braved the early rainy conditions, and spring plants were awarded as door prizes. The rain held off when it was time to play and 16 ladies enjoyed a morning of team scramble play. The first-place winning team for the day was Darcee Mitchell, Janice Paustian, Barbara Collin and Pat Edm undson. A dditional awards were given to the second- and third-place winners. T u e s d a y m o rn in g play is open to all Willow Creek Country Club lady members and guests from April through September. Morning play starts in April at 10 a.m., at 9 a.m. in May and June, and at 8 a.m. July to September. Special event days are posted at the WCCC Club House.
