I Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - THREE Cardinals move on to state quarterfinals The C ardinal b o y s’ basketball team has made it through the first t\Vo rounds of state playoffs and will head into the quarterfinals this week. The lone team started their journey in search of a state title by hosting Joseph on Feb. 26. A fter defeatin g the Eagles 84-46 in the first round o f play o ffs, the C ardinals advanced to play Siletz Valley on the W arriors’ home turf last Saturday. The Warriors fell to lone 74-59, leaving the path clear for the South Morrow team to advance to state quarterfinals in Baker City this Thursday, March 6. The 1A state basketball tournam ent takes place March 6-8 at Baker high School in Baker City; lone faces off against Powder Valley Thursday at 8:15 p.m. If the Cardinals win, they move on to play the w inner o f the Triangle Lake/Columbia Christian matchup in the 1A state semifinals on March 7 at 8:15 p.m. A loss to Powder Valley w ill place lo n e in the consolation bracket March 7 at 10:45 a m. A moebius. N am ed for A u g u st F erdinan d M obius, an early 19lh-century German m a t h e m a t i c i a n , t he moebius is a continuous one-sided surface that has been formed into a loop from a rectangular strip by rotating one end 180° and attaching it to the other end. Writers of all ages and levels are invited to attend a Moebius Poetry Workshop, set for Sat., March 15, from 10 a m. to noon at the lone Public Library. Led by Jack Lorts, published poet and mayor o f Fossil, attendees will write their own moebius poems and then mount them on a canvas moebius strip, therefore combining written and tangible art forms. Examples o f already- created moebius poems can be seen at the library. These poems have no beginning and no end, such as the following: “ ...burgeoning diam onds slip silen tly into the soft romance of darkness, falling lightly in summer rain, like eaglets eager to traverse waves of air, delighting as... The workshop is free, although small donations toward moebius materials are welcome. The event is sponsored by Libraries of Eastern Oregon (LEO).
