Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 19,2014 - SEVEN WIND FARM ON HOLD -Continuedfrom PAGE ONE S h e p h e rd s F la t, is a 333-tower, 845-megawatt w ind farm lo c a te d in both Morrow and Gilliam counties, near Arlington. One hundred percent of its power output goes to Southern California Edison, and mainly the city of Long B each. The ren ew ab le energy satisfies a California law that around 20 percent o f pow er consum ed in the state be produced by renewable sources. A new law requires the percentage will increase to 33 percent by 2020; however, California has also tightened up a requirement that a larger share o f the pow er be produced inside the state, w hich would rem ove a large potential customer for the power produced by the Heppner project. DA’s Report Morrow County D istrict Attorney Justin Nelson has released the following report: -Travis Edmond Samson, 32, was convicted of Felon Possess Firearm, a Class C felony. The seized weapon, a .45 caliber semi automatic pistol, was to be returned to the owner upon request within 90 days or be forfeited to the state. The defendant was sentenced to 16 months jail time with County farmers support local 4-H through America’s Farmers Grow Communities credit for time served, and to run eight months consecutive with other time serving and eight months concurrent with other time serving. Samson was also given two years post-prison supervision. Fines, fees and assessments totaled $200. -Travis Edmond Samson, 32, was further convicted o f Theft II, a C lass A m isdem eanor. Fines, fees, assessments and restitution totaled $850. - J orge G am eros R o d r i g u e z , 19, w a s convi ct ed o f Burglary I, a Class A felony, and sentenced to 18 months prison time with credit for time served; the defendant was also given three years post-prison supervision, terms to include no contact with the victim. Further counts of robbery and theft were disp o sed without conviction. Fines, fees and assessments totaled $691. Local f armers Joe and Cheryl Taylor have directed a $2,500 donation to the Morrow County 4-H Leaders Council. Funded by A me r i c a ’s F arm ers Grow Communities, the donation will help the group send 4-Hers to regional and statew ide events, along with funding scholarships for senior 4-H members. “ We are absolutely thrilled to receive this d o n a t io n from the America’s Farmers Grow Communities fund.” said Ashley Jones, Morrow County 4-11 representative. "This donation w ill provide support and scholarships for Morrow County 4-H members to attend local and regional 4-H leadership and learning events. It will also provide support for future programm ing efforts for youth within the county. We are extremely thankful for this monetary support that will go directly to providing to the 4-H program in Morrow County and the youth we serve. We are extremely thankful to Joe and Cheryl Taylor o f Double T Farms for selecting Morrow County 4-H as t h e i r c h o s e n recipient.” A m e r i c a ’s Farmers Grow Communities works di r e c t l y wi t h farmers to s u p p o r t n o n p r o f i t organizations like Morrow County 4-H. who are doing important work in their communities. The program offers farmers the chance to win $2,500, which is then donated to the farm er’s nonprofit of choice. The search for funding to sustain and enhance programs is a year-round job for nonprofit organizations across the country. Through America’s Farmers Grow Communi t i es , farmers have been able to support a variety of groups, such as schools, fire departments, community centers and youth organizations like 4-H and FFA. Ame r i c a ' s Farmers Grow C om m unities launched in 2010, and has since donated over $13 million to more than 5,200 nonprofit organizations a c r o s s the c ou nt ry .
