Bank o f Member FDIC Local students try for FBLA top spots Nine local students will be among an expected 460 students from 15 Eastern O reg o n h ig h s c h o o ls to com pete in the 2014 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Skills Conference to be held at Eastern O regon University this Thursday, Feb. 6. Heppner High School students Kayla K indle, B lake G reen u p , L illy Sanford, Patrick Collins, Ryan Smith, Erica Nelson, N atalie G rigg, C aitlyn Bailey and Lexi Bray will all be competing for a spot among the top 10 finishers, who will advance to the state conference in Portland in April. Agribusiness, insurance and risk management are new areas of focus in the co m p etitio n this year. Other events in public and impromptu speaking, job interviewing—40 different tests in all—are designed to assess students’ knowledge and aptitude. Kayla Kindle, Blake G re e n u p and P a tric k Collins will function as a team for the Management D ecision M aking test. Kindle and Greenup are a team for Business Law. Patrick Collins and Ryan Smith are teaming up for Sports Management. Ryan Smith and Caitlyn Bailey w ill w ork to g eth er for Entrepreneurship, while C aitlyn Bailey, N atalie Grigg, and Lexi Bray are a team for H ospitality Management. Erica Nelson and Lilly Sandford will compete together in Job Interview. Other students competing will come from Baker, Condon, Elgin, John Day, Helix, Imbler, Joseph, La Grande, Nyssa, Ontario, Pendleton, Stanfield. Union and Vale. Heppner students and advisor Jennie Collins will take a bus to La Grande Wednesday night in order to be ready for an early check in at 7:15 a.m. at EOU. Competition will start at 8 a.m. and go through lunch. R e s u l t s wi l l be announced at a public awards assembly at 12:30 p.m. in McKenzie Theatre in EOU’s Loso Hall.
