Boardman appoints budget committee members Tues day ni ght the Boardman City Council ap pointed Lavem Gertlar and reappointed Bob Okeson to the Boardman Budget Committee. Okeson has served on the budget committee since 2010; his term expired in December of 2012. He will be serving a term ending in December of 2015. Gertlar, in recent years, has served as a Boardman City Councilor and on the Boardman Budget Com mittee. He will be finishing a term ending in December o f 2014. “ The C i t y C o u n cil would like to thank outgoing member Kathie McGowan for serving on the Budget Committee,” said the council in a release. “Her commitment to the committee has benefited the entire community.” The budget committee is comprised of the Board- man City Council and seven members o f the commu nity, appointed by the city council, to serve three-year terms. The committee holds one or more meetings each April to review and make recom m endations to the city council for the city’s budget and the Urban Re newal D istrict’s budget. Currently, the budget com mittee has one vacancy. Interested parties must be adult residents of the City of Boardman and be willing to commit to the annual meet ings. Navarro said he will be moving out of town in the near future. The next meeting o f the Boardman City Council will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at Boardman City Hall. Nominations for 2013 Crystal Apple Awards now open The I nt er Mount a i n Education Service District (IMESD) has announced that nominations for the 2013 Crystal Apple “Ex cellence in E d u catio n ” Awards will be accepted now through Monday, April 1 . The Cryst al Appl e Awards will take place for Umatilla and Morrow counties on May 15 at the Pendleton Red Lion. This is the M"1 year for the Crystal Apple program, which began with support from the former Umatilla- t Morrow ESD and Mid Co lumbia Bus Company. The purpose of the awards is to recognize individuals who help make schools and stu dents successful. The awards are open to all classified and licensed/ certified staff in Umatilla and Morrow county school districts. The honor may be awarded to individuals who work full-time or part-time in any capacity other than administration. The staff member must have worked in his or her current posi tion for at least one year to qualify. Anyone in the general public may submit a nomination. In addition, nom ina tions are being accepted for the Doug Flatt Memorial Leadership Award, which recognizes an outstanding administrator.
