Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 9,2012 • THREE Celebrate art ‘in the company Call for photo contest entries of cowgirls’ The Fourth annual “In the Company of Cowgirls” art show and auction will kick off the popular Pendle ton Cattle Baron’s Weekend this Thursday, May 10, at the Pendleton Convention Center. This year the Hepp- ner-based, nonprofit event has continued its national status, attracting artists from as far away as Texas. Twenty-three cowgirl art ists will share the history and heritage of women in ranching, rodeo and agri culture through a variety of mediums. The art that will be judged and exhibited is currently available for preview and sale online at www. inthecompanyofcow- girls.com; it will be taken — offline prior to the event the morning of May 10. The “In the Company of Cowgirls” art show opens Thursday, May 10 at 1 p.m. Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. will be an artist’s reception with presentation of awards and special mu sic by Pendleton’s Barbara Nelson. The reception is free to the public and in cludes a no-host bar plus refreshments. On Friday, May 11, doors open for viewing art from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with an opportunity to watch art ists at work in the conven tion center foyer, creating an art piece in a day for the live auction on Saturday On May 12, art show hours are again 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with an exciting live art auction with auctioneer Stewart Severe that after noon from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Kathy M oss-Russell is S u n d ay ’s “ R an ch in ’ Women” presenter. Con- lone greenhouse open this week The lone greenhouse will be open M onday through Thursday this week from 4-5 p.m. The green house offers a selection of annual bedding plants, veg etables and a variety of pots and hanging baskets. People can also drop their own pots off for green house staff to plant for them. Prices for that service are: Small, $8-$10; me dium. $10-$ 12 and large, $12 and up. This includes fertilizer, plants and soil replacement. Those who drop off their own pots are asked to write or tape their name and phone number on the bottom so they can be informed when the pots are ready. Additionally, the shop is looking for any one who might be willing to donate a front-door screen for a bird- house project for the middle school shop. Items can be dropped off on the bench in front of the shop.
