Area students who received the honor were Sheri- lyn Peck and Eric Jepsen of Heppner, Alan Rietmann of lone, Kelli Jones of Boardman and Klarissa Hendrix of Irrigon. To qualify, students must achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term. It is the story o f the Frakes— an Iowa farm family who travels to the state fair. The parents, Abel and Melissa, dream of blue ribbons for their prize boar, “Blue Boy,” as well as for Grandma’s famous mincemeat. Their children, Wayne and Margy, venture out onto the midway and have adventures o f their own. More than 25 Hep pner youth have been re hearsing State Fair since mid-March. The cast in cludes students from grades four through 12. Senior Jeff McCo nnell will play the part of Abel Frake; Junior Tessa Gould will play his wife, M elissa. S enior Shane Smith stars as 21-year-old Wayne Frake, and Sopho more Samm Lemmon as his sister. Margy. Sophomores Treston Maben and Micha Hintz are featured as the newspaperman, Pat G il bert, and the singer, Emily Arden, respectively. Musical numbers include Margy's lament, “It Might As Well Be Spring,” and A b el’s ode to Blue Boy, “More Than Just a F riend.” Duets “ Isn’t It Kinda Fun?” and “So Far” divulge the excitement of young love, while “When I Go out Walking with My Baby” illustrates the affec tion of a happy marriage. Concessions will be provided by Heppner High School’s Art & Cul ture Club. On Saturday, the Art & Culture Club will host a special event prior to the show. This Art & Culture Fair will include food, games, face painting and crafts, and will be held in the cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Admission to the Art & Culture Fair is $5. or $3 with a ticket to the show.
