Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 1,2012 - THREE Chamber Chatter Heppner “Effective Organi zations” training through the Ford Institute for Com munity Building: The Ford Institute for Community Building is working on year two for Morrow County on Effective Organizations for non-profits and community organizations. Training is provided by Rural Develop ment Initiatives. This train ing is most beneficial for directors, board members, and staff and volunteers who work with non-profits and service organizations. It also has proven helpful to local government, service districts and institutions such as schools and clinics. We still have a few slots open and I would ask that you consider being a part of this program. You would be committed to attend two weekend meetings: Friday, Feb. 17 from 1 to 7 p.m. (O rganizational Leader ship) and Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Stra tegic Planning), and Friday, April 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. (Resource Development) and Saturday, April 14 from 9 a m. to 3 p.m. (Resource Mgmt). B lue M o u n tain Community College will offer a “Brown Bag” series of classes during the month of February to help indi viduals plan and save for re tirement. The four one-hour classes will be held at noon at the Blue Mountain Com munity College location in Boardman at 300 Front Street NE. The classes con sist of a two-part series; the first series is a primer on basic investment principles and the second series covers the fundamentals of retire ment planning. Depending on individual needs and knowledge, the series can be taken independently of each other or as offered. The goal o f the courses is to help attendees gain the skills to estimate how much money they need to retire, learn how to create retire ment goals, review invest ment basics, and more. The classes will be taught by Rita Van Schoiack, a finan cial advisor who is owner of Blue Mountain Investment Management. The class dates are as follows: Invest ment Basics Part I-Tuesday, February 7; Investment Ba sics Part 11-Tuesday. Febru ary 14; Retirement Basics Part I-Tuesday, February 21; and Retirement Basics Part 11-Wednesday. Febru ary 29. The classes are free and include a workbook for each series which can be purchased for $5 each. A dvance registration is required.
