Johnston, who was the ASB president for the c lass o f ' 91. now teaches el ementary school in Salem, the same school where Pat Edmundson taught when the Edmundsons lived in the Salem area. Johnston is in town visiting family during fair week, and was recruited as what Edmundson called an “involuntary volunteer” for the painting project. John ston didn’t seem to mind, since the benches hold a special place in his graduat ing class’s history. According to John ston, the class worked to raise money for a graduate trip to Disneyland in 1991. Thanks to an outpouring of community support, the stu dents raised around $7,000. That left them with money to spare, so they had the four benches built as an ex pression of gratitude for the community’s generosity. “They’re still here 20 years later,” said John ston. The many creative entries in the WCWP logo contest left the staff with a difficult de cision. -Contributed photo The winner of Wil low Creek Water Park’s (WCWP) logo contest is 11 -year-old Cara Arbogast. Cara is in the sixth grade. At the end of the last school year, students o f H eppner Elem entary School were encouraged to make a logo for WCWP. The winning logo would be made into a business sign to be placed in front of the facility, as well as put on swim towels to be sold at the pool. WCWP representa tives say the logo choice took long deliberation by the life guards and conces sions employees. “E v ery o n e who turned in a logo did an awesome job, so it was very hard to choose,” staff agreed.
