Johnston, who was

ementary school in Salem,
the same school where Pat
Edmundson taught when
the Edmundsons lived in
the Salem area.
Johnston is in town
visiting family during fair
week, and was recruited as
what Edmundson called an
“involuntary volunteer” for
the painting project. John
ston didn’t seem to mind,
since the benches hold a
special place in his graduat
ing class’s history.
According to John
ston, the class worked to
raise money for a graduate
trip to Disneyland in 1991.
Thanks to an outpouring of
community support, the stu
dents raised around $7,000.
That left them with money
to spare, so they had the
four benches built as an ex
pression of gratitude for the
community’s generosity.
“They’re still here
20 years later,” said John
ston.

Logo contest winner Cara Arbogast joins the WCWP staff
in displaying her winning entry. The many creative entries
in the WCWP logo contest left the staff with a difficult de
cision. -Contributed photo
The winner of Wil
low Creek Water Park’s
(WCWP) logo contest is
11 -year-old Cara Arbogast.
Cara is in the sixth grade.
At the end of the
last school year, students
o f H eppner Elem entary
School were encouraged
to make a logo for WCWP.
The winning logo would be
made into a business sign
to be placed in front of the
facility, as well as put on
swim towels to be sold at
the pool.
WCWP representa
tives say the logo choice
took long deliberation by
the life guards and conces
sions employees.
“E v ery o n e who
turned in a logo did an
awesome job, so it was
very hard to choose,” staff
agreed.
