Attorney General Kroger offers the following advice to consumers when it comes to unsolicited tele phone calls, mail or e-mail about a sw eepstakes or lottery: -Never pay to play in a sweepstakes. -Never pay money to claim a prize. -Do not give out your prepaid credit card number to someone you don’t know. and such lotteries often have close ties to organized crime. -Bew are o f fake organizations that go by nam es sim ilar to m ore widely-known groups in order to trick consumers. -Government agen cies do not sponsor sweep- stakes. -Beware of requests for information about your income, credit card owner ship, or bank accounts as a condition of participating in a sweepstakes or lottery. -Do not participate in sweepstakes or respond to advertisements that re sem ble a check, bill or invoice. - D e s tr o y fa k e sweepstakes or lottery of fers by shredding or delet ing them. If you or someone you know has fallen victim to a sweepstakes or lottery scam, contact the Oregon Department of Justice con sumer hotline at 1 -877-877- 9392 or the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office at 541 -676- 5317 for assistance. The M orrow County Sheriff’s Office reports handling the following business: west Eighth Rd. at the river in Irrigon. -MCSO received report of cattle out on west Eighth in Irrigon. Deputies put the cattle back in their pasture. -MCSO deputy re ported he was contacting the manager o f Mt. Glen Apartments in Heppner. -MCSO received report o f dogs at large in H eppner. A deputy put them back in their yard and warned the owner that next time he would get a citation. -MCSO received rep o rt from an Irrigon woman that she was having a problem with her daughter and a male subject. -MCSO, Boardman Police Department received report from a male subject in Boardman that he was just assaulted by two high school students. BPD ar rested a 17-year-old male for Assault IV and Disor derly Conduct and was to be lodged at NORCOR juvenile facilities with no bail. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon boy that when he came home his younger siblings were run ning toward him crying. He said the house was a mess and his parents were argu ing. It was determined to be a verbal argument only. No crime was committed. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that his neighbor was riding his four-w heeler and make a lot o f noise. A deputy checked the area and was unable to locate anything. -MCSO, Boardman Police Department received report from a custodian that there was a trespasser in the IMAC building in Irrigon. He said the door was open and someone was turning the lights on and off. -MCSO requested a deputy for a cover unit to help clear a building with a trespasser inside. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that neighbors were burning and throwing fire works into the fire. -MCSO received re port from a woman through relay from the Umatilla County Sheriff that her par ents were en route from Heppner to Ukiah when they got high centered on a snowbank around 25 miles from Heppner. No medical attention was need and the pickup was believed to be running. The male subject called UCSO to report that he was fine and in a motel in town. -BPD received re port of a possible restrain ing order violation. The restraining order on the subject was modified to al low him parenting time and communication regarding his children. -BPD received re port of two unattended ju veniles who appeared to be only around three years old running down the sidewalk from the LDS Church to Sam Boardman Elementary School. May 27: -MCSO received report o f suspi cious circumstances at the Riverfront Lodge & Grill. -B o ard m a n P o lice Departments received report from a Boardman woman who said there were two bulldogs in her yard barking. MCSO cited Gua dalupe Ortega Campos, 26, for Dog at Large. -BPD cited Mario Garcia Echevarria, 23, for Failure to Wear Seat Belt. -BPD received re port of a black “Min-Pin” running down Main Street. The owner was given a verbal warning for dog at large. -BPD cited Janier K. Katanga, 22, for Failure to Wear Seatbelt. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon resi dent that someone took the mail from his box, dumped The Morrow Coun ty District Attorney’s office has released the following report: -M a rib e th Bor- romeo A lonzo, 41, was convicted of harassment, a Class B misdemeanor re duced to a Class A violation after a plea of no contest. She was required to pay $382 in fines, fees and as sessments. -Toby Dale Rodri guez, 40, was convicted of one count of failure to appear in the first degree, a Class C felony, after a plea of guilty. He was sentenced to 2 years supervised proba tion, subject to 120 sanction units with 60 jail units, and 100 hours o f community service. Total fines, fees and assessments for the count were $1,738. The same defen dant was also convicted of one count of theft in the first degree, a Class C felony, based on a plea of guilty. He was sentenced to 2 years su pervised probation, subject to 120 sanction units with 60 jail units, and 100 hours of community service. He is also to complete other spe cial conditions of probation, including no direct or indi rect contact with the victim, a written letter of apology to the victim and delivered to the court, and return of the stolen property. The Heppner Fire Chief responded and checked the creeks, finding all well within their banks. -MCSO deputy re ported he was out with a vehicle in the median on 1-84, Boardman. The driver was warned about parking in an unsafe area to change a tire. -MCSO received report from a Boardman woman that she has chil dren with a subject; their kids were supposed to be at his mother’s but as per the Department of Human Ser vices, the children were not to have contact with him. The caller believed that the . children are either not at the residence or if they are, that he is with them. -MCSO received report from the sheriff that two dogs were on Hwy. 730 holding up traffic. He took possession of both dogs and located their owner. The owner was warned verbally for having dogs at large and no licenses. -MCSO received report from the gas station in Heppner of a blue Ford Explorer driving off with out paying for $30 in fuel. There direction o f travel was unknown.) -MCSO received report of a vehicle travel ing below 65 mph on 1-84, Boardman and the caller was unsure as to what he was doing. The vehicle pulled into Boardman. —MCSO received report that Oregon State Police arrested Donald Al bert VanMeter, 45, on an Irrigon Justice Court war rant for Failure to Appear/ Failure to A ppear/Driv- ing While Suspended. He was lodged at Multnomah County Jail with $6,000 bail with holds placed for Morrow County. -MCSO received report of a missing juvenile in Heppner. The juvenile’s mother said he told her he was staying the night with a friend, but the friend said he didn’t know where he was and none of his friends had seen him that day. -MCSO cited Vin cent Scott Hamilton, 27, for Violation o f the Speed Limit, 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, and for failure to sig nal lane change. -MCSO cited Kath leen Elizabeth Barton, 53, for Violation of the Speed Limit, 83 mph in a 65 mph zone. May 28: -BPD of ficer out where there was a car alarm going off. Unable to locate the car. -BPD issued Aman Hagos, 29, a warning re garding disobeying a traffic control device/stop sign. He was also advised to change a flat tire. -Female called the BPD and reported that she arrived home and there was a male subject sitting on her front porch drinking a can of beer. She asked the sub ject what he was doing and he stated he would move. BPD responded and located the subject on Willow Fork. He just came in from Los Angeles and was to meet a Miguel Torres. Believe he might have gotten off at the wrong town. -M CSO was ad vised that Umatilla County Police arrested Ivan Salas Salas, 21, on an Irrigon Justice Court warrant for failure to pay fine/minor in possession of alcohol, and Morrow County Court war rants for criminal mischief II and harassment. The sub ject was lodged at Umatilla County Jail. -A woman called to report two young males running through the Irrigon marina. She didn’t see them doing anything wrong; they were just out late for young kids. MCSO responded and was unable to locate any juveniles. -M CSO issued a citation to Steven Patrick Danielson, 62, for violating the basic rule by driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. -MCSO issued a citation to Gregory Scott Edelman, 52, for driving 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. -MCSO issued a citation to Travis William Saban, 37, for driving while suspended/violating the basic rule. -MCSO arrested James Ernest Stout II on an Irrigon Justice Court war rant for failure to appear/ theft III. The subject was lodged at Umatilla County Jail. -MCSO issued a citation to Gracie Kamiah Grant, 25, for violating the basic rule by driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. -MCSO issued a ci tation to Brian Keith Patten, 41, for violating the speed limit by driving 82 mph in a 65 mph zone. -MCSO issued a citation to Barbara Pollard Bailey, 73, for driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. -MCSO was ad vised that Benton County, OR police arrested Billy J. Parker, 25, on an Irrigon Justice Court warrant for failure to appear/theft III. Subject was cited and re leased to appear at Irrigon Justice Court. -MCSO officer was out with vehicle checking on citizens. They were just getting out and walking around due to car sick ness. -MCSO issued a ci tation to Isela Arevalo Her nandez, 36, for violating the speed limit by driving 84 mph in a 55 mph zone. The subject also received a warning for expired tags. -MCSO issued a citation to Andrew Lofton Newton, 26, for driving 94 mph a 65 mph zone. The subject was also warned for failure to carry proof of insurance and careless driving. -MCSO issued a citation to Timothy Scott Pool, 35, for violating the speed limit by driving 87 mph in a 65 mph zone. -MCSO responded to a Umatilla County Sher iff’s Office request for an agency assist. UCSO was out with an Oregon vehicle on HWY 207. Employee at Shearer’s Foods advised that a male subject with a goatee, blue shirt and khaki pants was checking all the doors of the business. When the employee tried to con tact the male, he took off on foot. The bag had the name of a Heppner resident on it and was returned to its owner. -M C SO d e p u ty conducted a field interview with a person stopped by the trees on Patterson Ferry Rd., Irrigon. It turned out to be a WSU researcher. -MCSO received report of a St. Bemard-mix running around in H ep pner. -MCSO received report of a stray cat that ap pears to be pregnant hang ing around a trailer park in Irrigon. -MCSO received report of a subject bitten by a dog at the Irrigon trailer park. MCSO) cited Albert Ronald Burgess, 61, for maintaining a dog as a pub lic nuisance. The subjects were trespassed from each other’s residences. -MCSO received report o f two male sub jects yelling at each other at the Homer’s Fruit Stand in Irrigon. One was chas ing the other. Daniel Roy Walchli, 37, was arrested on a Morrow County Circuit Court warrant for Failure to A ppear/Theft III and Trespass I. He was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with no bail. -MCSO received report of a utility vehicle with no plate pulling a trailer with no plate. Mar tha Ruiz De Renteria, 45, was cited for failure to carry proof of insurance.
