Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 11 2011 Sixth annual youth Grant Workshop fishing derby to be Scheduled held May 21 Morrow County’s 6lh Annual Youth Fishing Derby will take place Sat urday, May 21 at Cutsforth Park from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. The fishing derby is a free event for children up to age 14. Fishers will be divided into three age groups, with prizes for each group. Cutsforth Park is located at 58430 Willow Creek Road, about 22 miles south o f Heppner on the Blue Mountain Scenic By way. The class will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants should bring their own lunch. The cost of the workshop is $25 and pre-registration is required. A minimum number of participants is required to be able to hold the class. Students must be registered by Friday, May 20. This one-day seminar will introduce participants to the basics of getting a grant and then what to do once a grant has been received. Topics covered include: -Demystifying the grant-seeking process -Identifying funding sources -Framing the project -Elements of a proposal -What to do once you get a grant Susan Plass, Blue Mountain Community Col lege’s Director of Grants, will present the workshop. Ms. Plass has over 20 years experience in the field of grants and proposals. Interested participants may pre-register by con tacting Anne Morter, BMCC Coordinator for Morrow County, at 422-7040. Saturday, May 21: Fishing Derby for Mor row County will be held at Cutsforth Park from 8:30- 11 a.m. This event is for children up to 14 years of age. Tuesday, May 31: Community Bank will be having a barbecue from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Friday, June 10: Celebrate H eppner w ill kick off on Friday with the merchant sidewalk sale, a lunch barbecue by Bank of Eastern Oregon, team and individual Welly Toss Com petition and other activities. The community play for this year, “The Star Theatre in Film and on Stage,” is written by Doris Brosnan and Sharon Harrison. There will be two performances at the Elks Lodge, Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $10 per person. Heppner is work ing on starting up a Kiwanis Group and would like at least 25 members; busi nesses or individuals may join. An early meeting in June is being planned for an open house, the date to be announced later. Contact the chamber office if you are interested or would like more information. Boardman The May 18 cham ber lunch will feature Co lumbia River Processing, a state-of-the-art cheese-mak ing facility that is celebrat ing its 10-year anniversary. The lunch will be catered by Sunrise at Boardman; RSVP is required by Mon day, May 16. Cost of lunch is $ 10 per person. A Farmer’s Market is coming to Boardman be ginning June 13. It will be Mondays at the Boardman Marina Park just prior to Music in the Park. The event is open to all interested parties, not just amateurs. Boardman City Park will be staked out for 20 teams to vie for first, sec ond and third place awards for barbequed, smoked or sauced pork ribs. The stan dard entry fee is $80 per team, which includes four racks of ribs. An additional two racks may be requested with a $ 100 submission. All proceeds support special ized training and supplies for fire district volunteers and community public edu cation and safety awareness materials. The Morrow Coun ty Local Emergency Plan ning Committee meeting will be held Tuesday, May 17 at 10 a.m. in the Riv erfront Room of the Port of Morrow Building.
