DA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Morrow County announced that the county committee elections are in progress. Ballots were mailed to eligible voters and completed ballots must be returned by mail or to local FSA offices by De cember 6, 2010. “1 strongly rec ommend that producers vote because the county committee members play a significant role in the Agency, especially at the county level,” said Carnine. “County committee mem bers make decisions on how federal farm programs will be administered locally,” she said. fice by their peers and serve as the representative voice for agriculture producers in the county, and they are responsible for communi cating with USDA to ensure that national programs are adapted to fit local needs. County committees are responsible for making de cisions on issues including commodity loans and pay ments, conservation pro grams, disaster assistance programs and emergency programs. Carnine is active ly encouraging minority and female producers to serve as county committee members. It is important that the county committee ics o f the local agricul ture community. Interested candidates should contact their local FSA office to enquire about putting their name into nomination for the next county committee election. Farmers and ranch ers who participate in FSA programs are eligible to vote. If eligible voters do not receive a ballot by mail, Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked no later than December 6. New county committee members will assume their role and related responsibilities on January 1, 2011.
