SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 5,2010 Mustangs compete on home track The Heppner track team hosted their first big meet on the newly renovat ed track on Friday, April 30. Twelve teams from around the region competed at the Mustang Invitational. The Heppner girls’ team came out on top w ith 129.5 total team points. The H eppner boys’ team fin ished fourth (87.5 points). Erin Price was named High Point Girl Athlete o f the meet. Stephen Larlee from South Wasco County was High Point Boy Athlete of the meet. Price finished first in three events and ran a leg on the first place 4x400 meter relay team. Brynna Rust finished second in the 300 meter hurdles and long jump, third in the 100 meter hurdles and also ran a leg on the 4x400 relay. Alana Wilson ran a 1:06.62 in very windy conditions to win the 400 meters. Jordan Hatfield fin ished ju st behind Larlee in the 300 meter hurdles. Hatfield was also first in the 300 meter hurdles and in the triple jum p. Alex Pickles jum ped a season best 19’ 10” in the long jum p and finished third. The Mustangs host a four-way meet on Tues day, May 4. They then travel to Boardman on May 8 for the Columbia River Invita tional. S tru ck m eier Heppner Youth Track Meet to be held The second annual Mustang Youth Track Meet will be held Sunday, May 16, at 1 p.m. at the Heppner High School track. Events include the tennis ball throw, standing long jump, and the 25-meter, 50-meter, 100-meter and one-lap races. Children aged three years to fifth grade are eligible to compete. The meet is free to all participants, but donations will be accepted. The Heppner High School and Heppner Junior High track teams are sponsoring the event. Babe Ruth sign ups end May 15 Boys ages 13-15 years old planning to play Babe Ruth must be signed up before Saturday, May 15. Ninety golfers enjoyed the sunshine and helped the Heppner High School golf program raise funds for equipment, tournament fees, and travel costs. “It was a great day for everyone,” Coach Greg Grant stated. “It was nice to see our kids play so well and come away winners.” I51 Gross Prize went to: Joe Pranger, Tayler Hodges, and James Billings. 2nd Gross: Tom Shear, Don Eaves, and Gary Hunt. 3rd Gross: Kevin Morgan, Donald Jameison, and Dave Riney. 1SI Net: Emily Thompson, Donald Mathews, and Lindsay Cutsforth. 2nd Net: Daye Stone, M issy C utsforth, Je ff Cutsforth, and Ross Cutsforth. 3rd Net: Lane W right, Tim W right, and Rod Wilson. C JRA Rodeo to be held in Heppner H ep p n er is w ell represented at the Cayuse Junior Rodeo Association with the largest number o f contestants from one com munity. The Cayuse Junior Rodeo Association will be hosting a Junior Rodeo in Heppner on June 6. Watching a CJRA rodeo is a chance to view a part o f our region’s past w h ile at the sam e tim e seeing its future shining brightly in the faces of the CJRA participants. The Cayuse Junior Rodeo Association is non profit organization with the purpose o f the perpetuation o f the values associated with the sport o f rodeo and its rich cultural traditions. The CJRA provides youth o f the Inland N orthw est the opportunity to com pete against the best young athletes our region has to offer. The CJRA strives to prom ote the building o f responsibility, cooperation and good sportsm anship in our contestants to help them develop into outgoing and productive individu als in their comm unities.
