EIGHT - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, February 24,2010 A view from the hill Greeting from the Hill. As we started the New Year our first month was abundant with birthdays. We were pleased to cel ebrate the births of Lois White, Jan 1; Dallas Cra- ber, Jan 7; and Mary Lou Wilson, 26. Each birthday was enjoyed by all with cake, ice cream, and for one birthday, apple pie. Willow Creek Ter race residents and staff were very excited to welcome a new member to our family. Dean Gillman joined us and his quite manner and gentlemanly ways imme diately endeared him to us all. The residents of WCT celebrated National Hat Day on the 15th by donning all manner of hats. We had cowboy hats, visors, and hat’s that we had previous decorated and wore them proudly all day long. On the 23rd we had a special treat of delicious homemade pies for National Pie Day. As we moved into February the residents tried to “out blow” each other on Bubble Gum Day. Whether the resident was a sports fan or not all enjoyed our Super S h eriff's R eport The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office reports han dling the following business: October 18: Mor row County Sheriffs Office received report, at 12:59 a.m. from an Irrigon subject who said that people at the skate park were being loud and he was trying to sleep. The caller said he did not want contact, but just want ed them to quiet down. A deputy advised the subjects that the park was closed and they agreed to leave. -MCSO cited Yadi- ra Ramiraz Prado, 20, for No Operator’s License and Failure to Carry Proof of Insurance. -MCSO received report from a Boardman subject that weeks ago she reported that her sister-in- law was sending threaten ing texts to her. A deputy made contact and advised the sister-in-law to stop the texting approximately two weeks earlier. -MCSO received report of w ater main breaks in Irrigon. The city of Ir rigon was working on the problem and turned off the water. -MCSO received request to send a deputy to a Boardman location because a trooper was not answering his status checks. The trooper responded with his status and the deputy advised to stand down. Bowl Party. Residents came out to watch the game and root for their favorite team. If football wasn’t their cup of tea there were plenty of “goodies” for the residents to enjoy. V alen tin e’s Day found the residents feast ing on bacon wrapped filet mignon and prawns while enjoying the atmosphere of table clothes and candle light. The residents are also experiencing Olympic fever. Residents can check out the Olympic scoreboard to see how well our coun try is doing. The residents themselves will be compet ing in different events that will include: bird counting, ping pong toss, and marsh mallow stacking, to name a few. At the end of WCT Olympic Games we will have our infamous medal presentation ceremony. In the m onth o f February WCT staff and residents also lost a long time resident. Murl “Stub by” Rogers passed out of this world and into the arms of loved ones long gone. Stubby had been a resident of WCT for nearly 6 years. -MCSO received report of a calf hide lying near the dumpster which had been placed there for hides from hunters. The caller would like a deputy to check it out. A deputy made contact and advised there was no brand or mark ings indicating it had been shot. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon fe male that her juvenile male brother left after and argu ment with her older brother. A deputy responded and lo cated the younger brother. -MCSO received report o f open doors on a vehicle in Irrigon. The subjects said they forgot to close the doors after remov ing items from the vehicle. -M CSO cited J. Natividad Leon Jimenez, 48, for driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. -Boardman Police Department received report that someone found a dog and would like BPD to take the dog. -BPD received re port from a subject that her stereo was stolen from her car that had not been locked. -B P D a r r e s te d Miguel Claustro Rodriguez, 55-65 years old on probably cause charges of Failure to Carry and Present. He was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $1,500 bail. -B P D re p o rte d someone graffitied the entry way to the parking lot at the Sandpiper Apartments. -BPD advised two children to wear their hel mets and gave them candy. -BPD reported that a subject in a vehicle with a blown gasket was trying to make his way to the rest area on 1-84, Boardman. The vehicle was a hazard. -B oardm an Fire Department received report from the Boardman Senior Center that there is a fire alarm, but there is no fire. -Irrig o n A m b u lance received report of a male who was a grayish color. October 19: Mor row County Sheriff’s Office received report of a semi with a windmill body block ing the off ramp on 1-84, Port of Morrow, Boardman. The driver was trying to get in turned and moved. -MCSO deputy re ported being out with a farm truck on Bombing Range Rd. The coming of spring will never be the same. On February 16th a few of the residents attended the open house held by our new neighbors, Lakeview Terrace Residential Treat ment Facility. We were able to tour the facility and ask questions o f the staff. Upon our return home the residents who attended shared the information they had acquired with the other residents. A wonderful dis cussion ensued and many apprehensions were laid to rest. Finally, the resi dents have been enjoying the mild winter weather and are chomping at the bit to begin gardening. All Saints Episcopal/Hope Luther an Women’s Bible Study blessed our residents with daffodil starts. George has had a difficult time herself while telling the residents that they need to wait a bit longer before planting. We all have a bit of Spring Fever. No one spoke in opposition to the formation. The court conduct ed the following business: Heard a report from Mike Slater, USDA Wildlife Ser vices that they are continu- ing to lose funding from the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Slater stated that habitat and predation are the main reasons for the decline in the mule deer population. Both cougars and coyotes are to blame; Kim Camine, director for the Commission on Chil dren and Families presented the new 2009-2011 Part nership Agreement for the court’s approval; miscella neous correspondences and notices for meetings were reviewed. Child Care Resource and Referral Classes to be held Umatilla-Morrow Head Start, Inc. will be holding the following Child Care Resource and Referral Classes: -Family Child Care O verview will be held March 1 from 6-9 p.m. in Hermison. This free class is required by the Child Care Division for anyone wish ing to become a Registered Family Child Care Provid er, and for individuals that want to learn more about Oregon’s laws governing child care. CCD Certifiers will be on hand to talk about the rules and regulations and to explain the on-site Health and Safety Review process. One-on-onse ses sions can be set up upon request. -Signu-ups are be ing held for Medic First Aid and CPR. The cost for this class is $45 and will provide a two year certification. This class is needed for CCD registration and to qualify for the DHS Enhanced Rate. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required as there are only 12 slots. -B rain D evelop ment Training will be held March 4 in Hermiston. This is a free class. Call for times and location. Chamber of Commerce litter pick-up scheduled V o lu n te e rs o r ganized by the Heppner C ham ber o f Com m erce will pick up roadside litter along the main highways through town in preparation for Heppner’s St. Patrick’s Celebration on Thursday afternoon, March 4. The group w ill meet at the museum/library at 5 p.m. All businesses and residents along State High way 207 are encouraged to pick up and dispose of roadside litter at their loca tions. The litter pick-up is sponsored by the Oregon Department o f Transpor tation Adopt-A-Highway program. Williams, 33, on a Heppner Justice Court warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/Driving While Suspended. He was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $454 bail. -MCSO received report from a woman that her b rother-in-law was shaking and possibly hav ing a seizure, passing out and coming back. She said her husband was with him and the brother-in-law was not responding much. She advised they were heading to Good Shepherd. Dispatch called and advised a private vehicle was en route. -MCSO received an enquiry and to why deputies were out to her residence. MCSO advised it was a civil service. -MCSO received report from a male subject that his brother-in-law had taken 14 Hydrocodone and alcohol. -MCSO received a report from an lone subject that her son was supposed to be at her house by 7 p.m. and he hadn’t shown up by 11:36 p.m. She advised that there were two routes that he may have taken. Around 10 minutes later the male subject called and said he had made it safely and thanked the sheriff’s office. -Boardman Police Department arrested Jorge Urena Hernandez, 38, on an Irrigon Justice Court war rant for Failure to Pay Fine/ Driving While Suspended. He was lodged at UCJ. -BPD received re port of criminal mischief at the Boardman car wash. -BPD cited Sheila Ann Dubry, 33, for Driv ing Uninsured and Illegal Display of Plates (switched plates). The vehicle was towed. -BPD cited Bradley Allan Eaton, 54, for Viola tion of the Speed Limit, 41 mph in a 25 mph zone. -BPD, Boardman Ambulance reported they responded for an agency assist. -Boardman Ambu lance received report that a 67-year-old man had fallen out of his wheelchair and was lying on his stomach. He sustained a cut to his elbow. -Heppner Ambu lance received report of a 67-year-old male who became ill with vomiting, diarrhea and chest pain at the OHV Park. The caller reported he was en route to the Ruggs grain elevator in a silver Ford pickup. -Heppner Ambu lance received report of a 59-year-old female who was not breathing. The reporter said she had been sick all day and went down on the staircase. EMS re sponded. October 20: Mor row County Sheriff’s Office received report of a brown and white bird dog in Irri gon. A deputy advised the owners to keep the dog at home. -MCSO received request for a deputy from Heppner High School con cerning a male student. One 17-year-old male was cited for MIP-Tobacco. -MCSO received report of a yellow lab caught in Heppner. The dog was returned to the owner who was warned to keep her dog in the yard. -MCSO received rep o rt from a H eppner subject that someone had sprayed some white stuff on their vehicle. A deputy responded. -M C SO d ep u ty conducted a field interview concerning switching driv ers. -MCSO reported that a H eppner woman brought in a box of shot gun shells and .22 ammo to the sheriff’s office and requested that they dispose of them. -MCSO arrested Candice Merle Robello, 34, on two Irrigon Justice Court warrants for Harassment and Failure to Pay Fine/ DUII. She was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $5,363 bail. -MCSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject who was selling a trailer to another subject who did not make payments, so the first subject got the trailer back, but there were sev eral items missing from the trailer. The second subject wouldn’t return the items until the first subject paid the storage fees. -MCSO received report of a dugout in Irrigon tagged the previous night. -MCSO received report of graffiti at a towing business in Irrigon. -MCSO received report of a skunk caught in a skunk trap in Irrigon. -MCSO received tw o open 911 hang-up calls. -MCSO received report that a mother drove away from a day care facil ity in Irrigon intoxicated. MCSO arrested a female subject for DUII. She was also cited for Refusal of Breath Test and two counts of Reckless Endangering. She was cited and released and the vehicle impound ed. -MCSO deputy re ported he followed a driver on Highway 207, Lexing ton, and observed him driv ing down the center line for approximately 100 feet and sw erving back and forth. MCSO cited Ricardo Mendoza Sanchez, 32, for Failure to Drive In Lane. -Irrig o n A m bu lance received report of a subject in end-stage emphy sema with a rapid heart rate and gasping for breath. -MCSO received report of an open door in Boardman. Nothing was taken and the residents had forgotten to shut the door. -MCSO received report from a Boardman subject that he was watch ing an apartment for a resi dent. He said that there were five people in the apartment at the time and some of them were not sup posed to be there. -Boardman Police Department received report from a Boardman man that his daughter’s stuff was in an apartment and he needed to get his stuff out but offi cers had the location taped off because of trespassers. He said he had been house sitting for two weeks while the renters were in Califor nia. The subject was told by the property manager that he could contact an officer and he would be let in to get his property. -BPD received re quest from a Boardman subject for an officer to speak with kids about Hal loween safety. -BPD cited Cheryl Deyon M cDonough, 34, for Driving Uninsured, No Seatbelt-front seat child and no seatbelt or safety seat for backseat child. -BPD reported as sisting MCSO with a report from a day care facility. -BPD received re port of three dogs at large in Boardman. -B oardm an Am bulance received report of a 56-year-old male with a fainting spell. He was trans ported to Good Shepherd Hospital. October 21: Mor row County Sheriff's Of fice, Boardman Police De partment received report from a Boardman woman that her husband assaulted her and left the scene. She said he was at an apartment complex and did not know if he had been drinking. -MCSO received report of a cat hit in the road in Irrigon.
