A view from the hill
Greeting from the
Hill. As we started the New
Year our first month was
abundant with birthdays.
We were pleased to cel
ebrate the births of Lois
White, Jan 1; Dallas Cra-
ber, Jan 7; and Mary Lou
Wilson, 26. Each birthday
was enjoyed by all with
cake, ice cream, and for one
birthday, apple pie.

race residents and staff were
very excited to welcome a
new member to our family.
Dean Gillman joined us
and his quite manner and
gentlemanly ways imme
diately endeared him to us
all. The residents of WCT
celebrated National Hat
Day on the 15th by donning
all manner of hats. We had
cowboy hats, visors, and
hat’s that we had previous
decorated and wore them
proudly all day long. On the
23rd we had a special treat
of delicious homemade pies
for National Pie Day.
As we moved into
February the residents tried
to “out blow” each other on
Bubble Gum Day. Whether
the resident was a sports fan
or not all enjoyed our Super

who said that people at the
skate park were being loud
and he was trying to sleep.
The caller said he did not
want contact, but just want
ed them to quiet down. A
deputy advised the subjects
that the park was closed and
they agreed to leave.

report from a Boardman
subject that weeks ago she
reported that her sister-in-
law was sending threaten
ing texts to her. A deputy
made contact and advised
the sister-in-law to stop the
texting approximately two
weeks earlier.
-MCSO received
report of w ater main breaks
in Irrigon. The city of Ir
rigon was working on the
problem and turned off the
water.
-MCSO received
request to send a deputy
to a Boardman location
because a trooper was not
answering his status checks.
The trooper responded with
his status and the deputy
advised to stand down.
Bowl Party. Residents came
out to watch the game and
root for their favorite team.
If football wasn’t their cup
of tea there were plenty of
“goodies” for the residents
to enjoy.

found the residents feast
ing on bacon wrapped filet
mignon and prawns while
enjoying the atmosphere
of table clothes and candle
light. The residents are
also experiencing Olympic
fever. Residents can check
out the Olympic scoreboard
to see how well our coun
try is doing. The residents
themselves will be compet
ing in different events that
will include: bird counting,
ping pong toss, and marsh
mallow stacking, to name
a few. At the end of WCT
Olympic Games we will
have our infamous medal
presentation ceremony.
In the m onth o f
February WCT staff and
residents also lost a long
time resident. Murl “Stub
by” Rogers passed out of
this world and into the arms
of loved ones long gone.
Stubby had been a resident
of WCT for nearly 6 years.

caller would like a deputy
to check it out. A deputy
made contact and advised
there was no brand or mark
ings indicating it had been
shot.

ment with her older brother.
A deputy responded and lo
cated the younger brother.

greatly by all who knew her.
The coming of spring will
never be the same.
On February 16th a
few of the residents attended
the open house held by our
new neighbors, Lakeview
Terrace Residential Treat
ment Facility. We were
able to tour the facility
and ask questions o f the
staff. Upon our return home
the residents who attended
shared the information they
had acquired with the other
residents. A wonderful dis
cussion ensued and many
apprehensions were laid
to rest.
Finally, the resi
dents have been enjoying
the mild winter weather and
are chomping at the bit to
begin gardening. All Saints

an Women’s Bible Study
blessed our residents with
daffodil starts. George has
had a difficult time herself
while telling the residents
that they need to wait a
bit longer before planting.

both spoke in favor of the
formation of the district. No
one spoke in opposition to
the formation.
The court conduct

Heard a report from Mike
Slater, USDA Wildlife Ser
vices that they are continu-
ing to lose funding from the
Oregon Department of Fish
& Wildlife. Slater stated
that habitat and predation
are the main reasons for
the decline in the mule deer
population. Both cougars
and coyotes are to blame;
Kim Camine, director for
the Commission on Chil
dren and Families presented
the new 2009-2011 Part
nership Agreement for the
court’s approval; miscella
neous correspondences and
notices for meetings were
reviewed.

holding the following Child
Care Resource and Referral
Classes:

March 1 from 6-9 p.m. in
Hermison. This free class is
required by the Child Care
Division for anyone wish
ing to become a Registered
Family Child Care Provid
er, and for individuals that
want to learn more about
Oregon’s laws governing
child care. CCD Certifiers
will be on hand to talk about
the rules and regulations
and to explain the on-site
Health and Safety Review
process. One-on-onse ses
sions can be set up upon
request.

and CPR. The cost for this
class is $45 and will provide
a two year certification. This
class is needed for CCD
registration and to qualify

roadside litter at their loca

shaking and possibly hav
ing a seizure, passing out
and coming back. She said
her husband was with him
and the brother-in-law was
not responding much. She
advised they were heading
to Good Shepherd. Dispatch
called and advised a private
vehicle was en route.

an enquiry and to why
deputies were out to her
residence. MCSO advised
it was a civil service.
-MCSO received
report from a male subject
that his brother-in-law had
taken 14 Hydrocodone and
alcohol.
-MCSO received a
report from an lone subject
that her son was supposed
to be at her house by 7 p.m.
and he hadn’t shown up
by 11:36 p.m. She advised
that there were two routes
that he may have taken.
Around 10 minutes later
the male subject called and
said he had made it safely
and thanked the sheriff’s
office.

67-year-old man had fallen
out of his wheelchair and
was lying on his stomach.
He sustained a cut to his
elbow.

a 67-year-old male who
became ill with vomiting,
diarrhea and chest pain at
the OHV Park. The caller
reported he was en route to
the Ruggs grain elevator in
a silver Ford pickup.
-Heppner Ambu
lance received report of a
59-year-old female who
was not breathing. The
reporter said she had been
sick all day and went down
on the staircase. EMS re
sponded.

in Heppner. The dog was
returned to the owner who
was warned to keep her dog
in the yard.

sprayed some white stuff
on their vehicle. A deputy
responded.

warrants for Harassment
and Failure to Pay Fine/
DUII. She was lodged at
Umatilla County Jail with
$5,363 bail.

report from an Irrigon sub
ject who was selling a trailer
to another subject who did
not make payments, so the
first subject got the trailer
back, but there were sev
eral items missing from the
trailer. The second subject
wouldn’t return the items
until the first subject paid
the storage fees.
-MCSO received
report of a dugout in Irrigon
tagged the previous night.
-MCSO received
report of graffiti at a towing
business in Irrigon.
-MCSO received
report of a skunk caught in
a skunk trap in Irrigon.

away from a day care facil
ity in Irrigon intoxicated.
MCSO arrested a female
subject for DUII. She was
also cited for Refusal of
Breath Test and two counts

ported he followed a driver
on Highway 207, Lexing
ton, and observed him driv
ing down the center line
for approximately 100 feet
and sw erving back and
forth. MCSO cited Ricardo
Mendoza Sanchez, 32, for
Failure to Drive In Lane.

and gasping for breath.

Boardman. Nothing was
taken and the residents had
forgotten to shut the door.

ing an apartment for a resi
dent. He said that there
were five people in the
apartment at the time and
some of them were not sup
posed to be there.

Department received report
from a Boardman man that
his daughter’s stuff was in
an apartment and he needed
to get his stuff out but offi
cers had the location taped
off because of trespassers.
He said he had been house
sitting for two weeks while
the renters were in Califor
nia. The subject was told by
the property manager that
he could contact an officer
and he would be let in to get
his property.

speak with kids about Hal
loween safety.
