The contests are intended to inspire creativity using Oregon products. This year, contests included B o b ’s Best H om e-Baked Bread Contest, featuring B ob’s Red Mill flours and prod ucts; Down Home Favorites Recipe Contest, sponsored by FLAV-R-PAC and San- tiam; Delicious, Nutritious Sum m er C heese R ecipe Challenge, sponsored by the Dairy Farmers o f Oregon; Finest Marionberry Pie in Oregon contest, sponsored by the Oregon Raspberry' & Blackberry Commission; and the Hermiston Water melon contest, sponsored by Hermiston Watermelon Growers. B o b ’s R ed M ill sponsored the popular Bob’s Best Hom e-Baked Bread Contest. Contestants baked bread from scratch using B ob’s Red Mill products. This year's first place win ner was Jan Stroeber. Jan’s Herbed Oatmeal Pan Bread used fresh ingredients and Bob’s Red Mill flour. She will received $50 and two five pound bags o f B ob’s Red Mill flour. The Down Home Favorites contestants pre pared trad itio n al fam ily dishes using FLAV-R-PAC an d S an tiam p ro d u c ts . There were no entries this year. The first place winner w ould have received an embroidered apron and a product coupon. Oregon produced cheese was highlighted in the Delicious, N utritious Sum m er C heese R ecipe Challenge sponsored by the Dairy Farmers o f Oregon. Contestants use at least one type of Oregon cheese in a snack, salad, main dish, side dish or dessert. The winner would have received a “got milk” t-shirt and coupons fo r O re g o n -m a d e d airy products for first place, but there were no entries. The Oregon Rasp berry and Blackberry com mission sponsored the 2nd annual “Finest Marionberry Pie in Oregon” contest. The winning pies would have won $20 and been listed on the OregonFresh.net. This was our first year for this contest and we received no entries. T h e H e r m is to n W a te rm e lo n G r o w e r s ’ H e rm isto n W aterm elo n Seed-Spitting Contest does not involve cooking, but is creative and unique. It is always a big hit in Mor row County. C ontestants were divided into four divi sions - Men, Women, Youth (8-15 years) and Children (7 years and under). One- by-one, the contestants spit watermelon seeds as far as possible. This year’s place winners are: Men - Paul Keefer, 23’4”; W omen - Sierra Gilman, 23’; Youth - Cougar Krosker, 12’ 5”; Children - Amanda Barron, Sheriffs Report ju st assaulted by a male subject. He said he would like an officer to respond. -BPD received re port from an officer who made contact with a pos sib ly d isa b le d v e h ic le . S ubject said ev ery th in g was okay; they were just scraping bugs off the wind shield. - I r r ig o n A m b u lance received report o f an eight-month old baby chok ing on a com shell. June 9: M orrow County Sheriff’s Office cit ed Ryan Brady Ensminger, 22, for driving 30 mph in a 20 mph zone. -M CSO received report o f a subject walking from H erm iston through R uggs w earin g a w hite T-shirt with no sleeves, a black fanny pack and floppy hat. A deputy located the subject. The subject was given food and a ride. ,„ -M C SO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that her neighbors had an eight to 10-week old puppy that was not being taken care of with no food and its w ater had algae in it. The dog was tied up w ith a rope behind a shed. A deputy responded and the ow ner’s sister took the dog to Pet Rescue. -M CSO received re p o rt from an Irrig o n wom an that her husband w as sta lk in g her at her residence. -M C SO received report from a deputy that he was out with a vehicle pull ing a disabled trailer full of cattle. The trailer wheel was coming off. -M C SO received report from the Heppner High School principal o f two truant kids. A deputy responded and located the juveniles who were brought back to the school and their parents and guardian were contacted. -M C SO received report from the Jackson C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice that they had arrested Brian Andrew Clemens, 36, on an Irrigon Justice Court war rant for Failure to Appear/ Driving While Suspended. He was lodged at Jackson C ounty Jail w ith $6,000 bail. -M C SO received report o f a male who was riding a four-wheeler in the Parkside Rd./Ridge Crest Lane area. Deputy advised him that if he was caught rid in g in the area again he would be cited and his four-wheeler would be im pounded. -M C SO received r e p o rt o f a s u s p ic io u s male with a puppy walk ing through an alley near his residence. The subject w asn't doing anything il legal. -M C SO received report from an Irrigon man that his ex-wife called and said that their four-year-old child had a burst appendix and the ex-wife w ouldn’t say w hat hospital they were at. A deputy checked on the child who was not sick. The ex-wife said she made no such phone call. -M CSO received report from a Heppner man that he saw a female juve nile driving a vehicle with her mother in the passenger seat. He said the mother did not have a valid d riv er’s license and the ju v en ile driver had only an instruc tional permit. He also ad vised he met the vehicle at the intersection and the vehicle hit his vehicle. -M C SO received rep o rt o f a co m m ercial burglar alarm in Heppner. The deputy who responded advised that a balloon be ing blown around by the air conditioning set off the alarm. -Boardman Police Department, Boardman Fire Department received report o f heavy sm oke com ing from the chipper in the chip building in Boardman. -BPD received re port o f a hit and run, non injury accident in Board- man. The vehicle and driver were located. -BPD received re port from a Boardman man that when he returned home after being gone for four days his air compressor had been stolen and wires to his security cam eras outside were clipped. -B PD cited Fred Allen Silva, 46, for DUII, D elivery and Possession o f a Controlled Substance S c h e d u le II, R e s is tin g A rrest, D istribution o f a Controlled Substance and Assaulting a Public Safety Officer. He was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $42,500 bail. -H eppner A m bu lance received a report o f a subject at the assisted living center with a high tem perature. One subject was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital. -Heppner Fire De partment received report of a grass fire moving up the canyon with windy condi tions on Little Butter Creek Rd., Heppner. June 10; Morrow C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice received report that Main Street in Heppner will be closed all day from May St. to C enter St. because the sham rock was being painted. -M C SO received report that four male juve niles and one female were messing around a back door on Main St. in Heppner and extra patrol was requested. -M C SO received report that a subject in the c o u rt room at the M or row County Courthouse in Heppner moved a chair and bumped the judge’s panic button. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office reports han dling the following busi ness: June 8: M orrow County Sheriff’s Office re ceived report from a deputy that he was putting out a fire near First Street and the River in Irrigon. -M CSO received report of seven dogs bark ing all night and o ff and on all day at a H eppner residence. -M C SO received report that bulldogs were fighting and killing each other in Irrigon. The dogs were separated. -M CSO received report from an lone woman that there was a bullet hole in her kitchen window. It turned out that the lawn m ow er hit a rock and a piece o f the blade w ent through the window. -M CSO received report from a deputy that he was out for a check at apart ments in Heppner where he heard kids screaming. -M CSO received report from a female con cerning telephone harass ment from another female. According to the reporter, the other fem ale taunted her and laughed about not getting into trouble for call ing them. -M CSO received report from a juvenile sub ject on 1-84 near Boardman that his father was driving drunk on the freeway. -MCSO cited Ray- lene Mae Pullum, 46, for U nlaw ful P ossession o f M eth am p h etam in e. She w as lodged at U m atilla County Jail with $7,500 bail. -M CSO received report from an Irrigon man that he was in a wheelchair and a fan fell over and he was worried that it would catch the house on fire. He said he was not able to call anyone else. -M CSO received report from an Irrigon sub ject that his grandm other and niece were fighting. The grandmother was try ing to control her 16-year- old granddaughter. A deputy responded. -Boardman Police Department arrested Peggy Diane Favorit, 56, for DUII. She was cited and released with $6,000 bail. -BPD cited Juan Manuel Lopez, 20, for Fail ure to Obey Traffic Control Device and Failure to Carry Proof of Insurance. -BPD received re port from a fem ale that her 2008 Ford Focus was involved in a hit and run. A deputy responded. -M C S O , B o ard - m an P olice D epartm ent received report that while at the Boardman Airport, two males driving a pickup were trying to sell brand new item s, including a 7,000 w att generator, an 8,000 watt generator, an air com pressor, a water pump and a power washer for cheap. Reporter believed the items may have been stolen. A deputy located the subjects at an RV park in Boardman and the driver o f the vehicle showed proper paperwork from a company based in Fort Wayne, IN. The items were not stolen. -M C SO received report from an lone subject that his vehicle was being T P’ed by students. -M C SO received report from a Lexington subject that he was m iss ing money from his bank account. The report was un founded as the subject had dementia and was talking about things that occurred 20 years ago. Deputy could not discover anything that had happened recently. -M CSO received report o f an audible burglar alarm at H ep p n er H igh School. It was determined to be an employee error. -MCSO deputy re ported he was flagged down by a bicyclist who said that while she was riding her bike a dog ran out and bit her shoe. Owner advised he will keep the dog kenneled when no one is home. -M C SO received re p o rt from an Irrig o n wom an that her 14-year- old daughter and another female juvenile had been talking over the internet and m et up at the skate park. The mother then said she received a call from a neighbor advising someone was trying to pick a fight with her daughter, so she also went to the park. She said the other juvenile came up and called her daughter a bitch. A deputy responded and contacted all parties. No crime was committed. -M C SO received a report from a H eppner subject that his vehicle was not running correctly and suspected that someone put sugar in his gas tank be cause when he opened the gas cap he could see gran ules. A deputy made contact with the subject who said it was because he had broken up with his girlfriend about a month earlier. Dispatch confirmed through a web search that sugar could pos sibly disable a car. -Continued on Page TEN
