Oregon’s Best Contests a hit at the Morrow County Fair
The Oregon’s Best
Contests are a tradition at
the Morrow County Fair.
The contests are intended
to inspire creativity using
Oregon products. This year,
contests included B o b ’s
Best H om e-Baked Bread
Contest, featuring B ob’s
Red Mill flours and prod­
ucts; Down Home Favorites
Recipe Contest, sponsored
by FLAV-R-PAC and San-
tiam; Delicious, Nutritious
Sum m er C heese R ecipe
Challenge, sponsored by the
Dairy Farmers o f Oregon;
Finest Marionberry Pie in
Oregon contest, sponsored
by the Oregon Raspberry'
& Blackberry Commission;
and the Hermiston Water­
melon contest, sponsored
by Hermiston Watermelon
Growers.
B o b ’s R ed M ill
sponsored the popular Bob’s
Best Hom e-Baked Bread
Contest. Contestants baked
bread from scratch using
B ob’s Red Mill products.
This year's first place win­
ner was Jan Stroeber. Jan’s
Herbed Oatmeal Pan Bread
used fresh ingredients and
Bob’s Red Mill flour. She
will received $50 and two
five pound bags o f B ob’s
Red Mill flour.

Favorites contestants pre­

There were no entries this
year. The first place winner
w ould have received an
embroidered apron and a
product coupon.
Oregon produced
cheese was highlighted in
the Delicious, N utritious
Sum m er C heese R ecipe
Challenge sponsored by the
Dairy Farmers o f Oregon.
Contestants use at least one
type of Oregon cheese in a
snack, salad, main dish, side
dish or dessert. The winner
would have received a “got
milk” t-shirt and coupons
fo r O re g o n -m a d e d airy
products for first place, but
there were no entries.
The Oregon Rasp­
berry and Blackberry com­
mission sponsored the 2nd
annual “Finest Marionberry
Pie in Oregon” contest. The
winning pies would have
won $20 and been listed on
the OregonFresh.net. This
was our first year for this
contest and we received no
entries.

Seed-Spitting Contest does
not involve cooking, but
is creative and unique. It
is always a big hit in Mor­
row County. C ontestants
were divided into four divi­
sions - Men, Women, Youth
(8-15 years) and Children
(7 years and under). One-
by-one, the contestants spit
watermelon seeds as far as
possible. This year’s place
winners are: Men - Paul
Keefer, 23’4”; W omen -
Sierra Gilman, 23’; Youth
- Cougar Krosker, 12’ 5”;

ed Ryan Brady Ensminger,
22, for driving 30 mph in a
20 mph zone.

T-shirt with no sleeves, a
black fanny pack and floppy
hat. A deputy located the
subject. The subject was
given food and a ride. ,„

ject that her neighbors had
an eight to 10-week old
puppy that was not being
taken care of with no food
and its w ater had algae
in it. The dog was tied up
w ith a rope behind a shed.
A deputy responded and the
ow ner’s sister took the dog
to Pet Rescue.

was out with a vehicle pull­
ing a disabled trailer full of
cattle. The trailer wheel was

two truant kids. A deputy
responded and located the
juveniles who were brought
back to the school and their
parents and guardian were
contacted.

that they had arrested Brian
Andrew Clemens, 36, on an
Irrigon Justice Court war­
rant for Failure to Appear/
Driving While Suspended.
He was lodged at Jackson
C ounty Jail w ith $6,000
bail.

report o f a male who was
riding a four-wheeler in the
Parkside Rd./Ridge Crest
Lane area. Deputy advised
him that if he was caught
rid in g in the area again
he would be cited and his
four-wheeler would be im­
pounded.

ing through an alley near
his residence. The subject
w asn't doing anything il­
legal.

that his ex-wife called and
said that their four-year-old
child had a burst appendix
and the ex-wife w ouldn’t
say w hat hospital they were
at. A deputy checked on the
child who was not sick. The
ex-wife said she made no
such phone call.

report from a Heppner man
that he saw a female juve­
nile driving a vehicle with
her mother in the passenger
seat. He said the mother did
not have a valid d riv er’s
license and the ju v en ile
driver had only an instruc­
tional permit. He also ad­
vised he met the vehicle
at the intersection and the
vehicle hit his vehicle.

advised that a balloon be­
ing blown around by the
air conditioning set off the
alarm.

Department received report

from the chipper in the chip
building in Boardman.
-BPD received re­
port o f a hit and run, non­
injury accident in Board-
man. The vehicle and driver
were located.
-BPD received re­
port from a Boardman man
that when he returned home
after being gone for four
days his air compressor had
been stolen and wires to his
security cam eras outside
were clipped.

Street in Heppner will be
closed all day from May

messing around a back door
on Main St. in Heppner and
extra patrol was requested.

residence.

were separated.

that there was a bullet hole
in her kitchen window. It
turned out that the lawn
m ow er hit a rock and a
piece o f the blade w ent
through the window.

report from a deputy that he
was out for a check at apart­
ments in Heppner where he
heard kids screaming.

cerning telephone harass­
ment from another female.
According to the reporter,
the other fem ale taunted
her and laughed about not
getting into trouble for call­
ing them.

ject on 1-84 near Boardman
that his father was driving
drunk on the freeway.

and niece were fighting.
The grandmother was try­
ing to control her 16-year-
old granddaughter. A deputy
responded.
-Boardman Police
Department arrested Peggy
Diane Favorit, 56, for DUII.
She was cited and released
with $6,000 bail.
-BPD cited Juan
Manuel Lopez, 20, for Fail­
ure to Obey Traffic Control
Device and Failure to Carry
Proof of Insurance.
-BPD received re­
port from a fem ale that
her 2008 Ford Focus was
involved in a hit and run.

the Boardman Airport, two
males driving a pickup were
trying to sell brand new
item s, including a 7,000
w att generator, an 8,000
watt generator, an air com­
pressor, a water pump and
a power washer for cheap.
Reporter believed the items
may have been stolen. A
deputy located the subjects
at an RV park in Boardman
and the driver o f the vehicle
showed proper paperwork
from a company based in
Fort Wayne, IN. The items
were not stolen.

ing money from his bank
account. The report was un­
founded as the subject had
dementia and was talking
about things that occurred
20 years ago. Deputy could
not discover anything that
had happened recently.

alarm at H ep p n er H igh
School. It was determined
to be an employee error.

ported he was flagged down
by a bicyclist who said that
while she was riding her
bike a dog ran out and bit
her shoe. Owner advised he
will keep the dog kenneled
when no one is home.

wom an that her 14-year-
old daughter and another
female juvenile had been
talking over the internet
and m et up at the skate
park. The mother then said
she received a call from a
neighbor advising someone
was trying to pick a fight
with her daughter, so she
also went to the park. She
said the other juvenile came
up and called her daughter
a bitch. A deputy responded
and contacted all parties.
No crime was committed.

a report from a H eppner
subject that his vehicle was
not running correctly and
suspected that someone put
sugar in his gas tank be­
cause when he opened the
gas cap he could see gran­
ules. A deputy made contact
with the subject who said it
was because he had broken
up with his girlfriend about
a month earlier. Dispatch
confirmed through a web
search that sugar could pos­
sibly disable a car.
