Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. and prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. A barbe- cue will also be held. Funds raised will benefit the OHV EMS. Participants can meet at the School District promptly at 1:15 p.m. A social hour and dinner will follow at the City Park in lone, spon sored by the Oregon Wheat Growers League at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to help with the pot- luck by bringing a side dish, salad, or dessert. A Celebration of Life for George Gerald Davidson Mill be Held Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m. in the lone City Park I Obituaries Louis E. “Ed” Dick Jr. Louis Edwin “Ed” Dick Jr., 91, formerly of Heppner died June 14,2009 at the Milwaukie Convales cent Home in Milwaukie. He w as born in L e w is to n , MT on July 16, 1917 to L o u is Edwin and Martha Ash ton Dick Sr. He spent his Louis E. “Ed” Dick Jr. c h ild h o o d in Pomeroy, WA and lone before moving to Heppner in 1933, gradu ation from Heppner High School in 1935. He then went to Pacific University and the University o f Or egon where he graduated with a degree in business. He w as life member o f the University o f Oregon Alumni Association. On December 22, 1940, he married Rachel Forsythe who had come to Heppner to teach. In 1941 they purchased the Stan dard Oil Distributorship in Heppner from his father which he and Rachel oper ated until his retirement in 1975. In 1944 he enlisted in the Navy serving in the South Pacific o ff Saipan until 1946 at the end o f the war. Rachel and other fam ily members operated the plant during Ed’s deploy ment. Ed started an appli ance business while still in high school selling mostly Servel gas and kerosene refrigerators. After the war he expanded the appliance business opening a store on Linden Way in Heppner. He also owned both the Lexington Chevron Station and Garage (1941 - 1976) and the Heppner Chevron (1973-1978). Ed was actively in volved in many community organizations and activi ties including Heppner TV, PTA, Morrow County Plan ning Com m ission, Mor row County School Board, Pioneer Memorial Hospital Board, American Legion Post 69, Heppner Chamber o f Commerce, Elks Lodge #358 (serving as treasure for many years), Lake Pen- land Corporation, Bank of Eastern Board of Directors, and the United Methodist Church. L a k e P e n la n d held a very special place in his heart being one of the original members and served as their president for a number o f years. He and Rachel built a cabin at the lake which they enjoyed while hunting, fishing, and sailing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by: sons, Ladd Dick o f Oak Harbor, WA, Stuart Dick and his wife Julie o f Pend leton, and Kevin Dick and his wife Jana of Gresham; daughter, Erin Clem and her husband Jim o f Milwaukie; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Rachel in 1988; his sons, Derrick in 1957 and Kyle in 2008; sister Marcia and brother Kemp Dick who were twins. A memorial service with military honors for Mr. Dick will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the United M ethodist Church in Heppner. Sweeney Mortuary o f Heppner is in charge o f arrangements. Georgia Anna Irvin Georgia Anna Ir vin was bom at the ranch in Lexington on Septem ber 15,1931 to Ted and F lo r e n c e Spence Mc Millan. She died on Sun day June 21, 2 ° 09/ cV he Georgia Good Shep- Anna Irvin herd M edi cal Center in Hermiston at the age o f 77. Georgia was raised on a wheat ranch in Lex ington and graduated from Lexington High School and married George Irvin in 1949. The Irvins lived in many locations around the state o f Oregon fo l lowing George’s career in road construction, settling in Irrigon in 1978. Jo was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Holly Rebekah Lodge # 139IOOF Lexington, and Loyal Order o f Moose Chapter #2144 in Irrigon. She was also a member o f the Oregon Trail Chapter o f Sweet Adelines. Jo enjoyed working in her yard, raising her steers, spoiling her grandchildren and sin gin g karaoke at Bakes in Irrigon with her daughters and friends. She was preced ed in death by husband, George E. Irvin. Jo is survived by: a son, William (Bill) Irvin; two daughters, Valda Smith o f Hermiston, and Vicky Bowen o f Woodbum; sister, Patricia Cool of Pendleton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Bums Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington. There will be a gathering at the Lexington Lodge Hall after the burial. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Hospi tal in Walla Walla, WA. Bums Mortuary o f Hermiston is in care o f ar rangements. Omer K. McCaleb Omer K. McCaleb, 88, formerly o f Heppner d ie d June 18, 2009 in Portland. D r. M c C a le b w a s born J u n e 1 8 , Omer K. 1921 in Hep McCaleb pner, the son o f W illiam and Mary Morgan M c Caleb. He was raised and attended grammar, middle school, and Heppner High School where he graduated. While living in Heppner he attended the Christian Church. He was attending Oregon State College when he was called to serve in the Army Air Corps. Upon discharge he returned to Oregon State College and received his bachelor’s de gree. He received his mas ter’s degree from Portland State University and his doctorate from the Univer sity o f Portland. In 1944 he mar ried Ruth L. Green in Cof- feyville, KS. He began his teaching career in Reed- sport. In 1954 he went to work for the David Doug las School District in the industrial arts program as a teacher, head o f counseling and finally in administra tion. He created the VIG OR program and retired in 1938. He is survived by: his wife, Ruth McCaleb; daughters, Mary E. Welliv- er and her husband Roger, Barbara K. Coon and her husband Tom, and Beverly L. Tobias; seven grand children and five great grandchildren. A memorial ser vice for Mr. McCaleb will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26,2009 at the United Methodist Church in Hep pner. A concluding service with Military Honors will follow at the Heppner Ma sonic Cemetery. Rita Darlene (Mc Daniel) Medlock Rita Darlene (Mc Daniel) Medlock was bom August 17, 1939 in Lone Rock, Ore gon to Oren and Dai s > M cD aniel. She died on Friday June m l *-*'J 19, 2009 at P i | | her home in I----- —&— H erm iston Rita Darlene at the age o f (McDaniel) 69 years. Medlock She was raised in Hardman and Heppner. She went to grade school in Hardman and attended High school in Heppner. She met Morgan M edlock in 1954. They were later married in 1955. They were married for 41 years. They lived in Hep pner and Spray area and had two sons. They later moved to Hermiston in 1965. Rita worked for the J & L Motel and for Bud Rich Potato. She enjoyed the m ountains, listen in g to old time music, dancing, playing cards and play ing Yahtzee on a Saturday night. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morgan Medlock; sister, Hazel Hunt; brother, Ivan McDaniel; and grand children, Dusty Medlock, and Donald Medlock. She is survived by: her sons, Raymond and w ife Tina M edlock, and Bill and wife Denise Med lock, both o f Hermiston; grandchildren, Scott and wife Stacy Medlock, Billy Schwartz, William Med lock, Tyler Medlock and Faith Medlock; and great grandchildren, Brandon and Blaine Medlock. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Bums Mortuary Chapel. A private family burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery. Floyd “Wilbur” Worden F loyd “ W ilbur” Worden, 87, o f Heppner died Tuesday, June 16, 2009. H e w a s born October 2 6 , 1921 in Condon, the son o f Floyd Wes ley and Eu- Floyd nice “Marjo- “Wilbur” rie” Ebbert Worden Worden. The family moved to the E ightm ile area in 1926 where they raised wheat and Polled Hereford cattle. He attended pri mary school at the Eight- mile Schoolhouse and then attended Heppner High School where he graduated in 1940. He was one o f the original charter members when the FFA Chapter was formed in Heppner. He entered the United States Army in 1944 and attended the Infantry Motor School. He w as honorably d is charged in 1946. He met Rita Stein- berger when she came to Heppner as one o f the first two nurses when Pioneer Memorial Hospital opened. T hey w ere married on March 26, 1951 in Seattle, WA. H e w ork ed for Rosewall Motor Company until 1971 and then he went to work for Kinzua Mill from November, 1971 until he retired on June 1“, 1987. After he retired he contin ued to work on the family ranch. Mr. Worden’s hob bies were working, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a member o f St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, the Heppner Elks Lodge, Morrow County L ivestock Growers and Oregon Wheat League. Survivors include: his w ife , Rita Worden o f Hermiston; sons, Bob Worden and his wife Pam o f Heppner, David Worden and his wife Pam o f Pend leton, and Randy Worden o f Milwaukie; sisters, Doris Knighten and her husband D oss o f Clackamas, and Dorothy Gemhardt and her husband John o f Wilson- ville; eight grandchildren, Rick Worden, Kristi Mc- Nam ee, Robert Worden, Aaron W orden, D ennis Worden, Winston Worden, Jeremy Worden and Keven Worden; and three great grandchildren, Daem on Worden, Arianna Worden, and Klynn McNamee. A memorial funeral mass with military honors will be held for Mr. Worden at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1,2009 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hep pner. Recitation of the Ro sary will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the church. A private family burial was held Friday, June 19, at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
