The board also ap proved replacement o f the tables in the cafeteria and two additional tables for the opposite wall at $20,686. In a construction update, Willamette Educa tion Service District direc tor David McKay told the board, “ W e’re in a very good position. We’ve had very good bids." He said that although the entire project is “technically” over budget, the scope o f the project had increased. He said the entire project still comes well within the con tingency amount budgeted. “Considering the total pic ture, w e’re still w ithin bud get,” said McKay. The orig inal capital improvement budget w as $ 2 ,7 9 9 ,6 4 0 with the revised budget com ing in at $2,808,539. He o u tlin ed reven ue as $ 2 ,8 0 0 ,0 0 0 in bond pro ceeds, $ 19,546 in state pool interest; $104,833 in bond premium funds, $31,457 for Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC) funds and $12,390 received as a BPA incen tive, totaling $2,968,225. McKay told the board that the monies received from interest, the BETC and BPA incentive could be used for furnishings. Other bids aw arded include: -Gordon's Electric- low bid fora lighting retrofit project at $21,922. Culver Electric, LLC, was second at $25,864; Modem Electric S ervices Company, third at $26,980; and Pendleton Electric, fourth at $40,523. -Peformance Abatem ent S ervices-low bid at $8,760 for asbestos abatement. IRC Abatement Technologies was second with $9,500; Alpine Abate ment was third w ith $9,668; and PMG, Inc., fourth at $ 12 , 000 . wood Floors, Inc.-low bid at $70,000 for replacement o f the maple floating gym floor. JLD Construction, LLC, was the only other bid for $101,257. Lion’s Club annual barbecue and officer installation held The Heppner Lions C lub recen tly had their annual barbecue and o f ficer installation. During the informal meeting, club president D ick Paris re viewed some o f the club’s accom plishm ents and ac tivities. S in ce July 2008, the 22 member club fur nished eyeglasses to three individuals, donated $100 toward a camping scholar ship to Gales Creek Camp for Juvenile Diabetics, do nated $ 100 toward “Riding for Sadie” for the advance ment o f research and assis tance to families with pre mature sight disable infants, awarded $500 scholarships to three 2 0 0 8 graduates o f Heppner High School, and furnished the soda and juice for the Kid’s Fishing Derby. T he p ast y e a r ’s projects included Adopt- A-H ighway litter pickup, spreading gravel at the Hep pner football field for dust abatement, presentation o f American flags to the first- and second-graders at Hep pner and lone Elementary Schools, decorating a booth for the Morrow County Fair (which earned the Superin tendent's Choice Award), as well participating as a St. Patrick's Catholic Church held Vacation Bible School June 8-11. Participants enjoyed classes, crafts, games, music and snacks.
