In honor of O regon's Sesquicenten- nial, Oregon libraries are collaborating on Oregon Reads 2009, the first state wide community reading project. Oregonians are in vited to read S tubborn Twig by Lauren Kessler. Stubborn Twig is the true story o f three generations o f a Japanese American family who settled in Hood River. The book explores the A m erican id e n tity through the real stories of people who lived through the events surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor and life afterwards. Children can par ticipate in Oregon Reads too by reading Bat 6 by Virginia Euwer Wolff or Apples to Oregon by Deb orah Hopkins. Apples to Oregon is an original tall tale recounting the journey from Iowa to Oregon o f Delicious and her family -and their apple trees. T h ere are m any copies o f Stubborn Tw ig available at each library. It is also available to down load through Library to Go on the website. An online book discussion group and booklists for other books related to the theme will be available via the library website at www.oregon- trail.plinkit.org. Lexington 8. lone The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office reports han dling the following busi ness: Dec. 12: - MCSO received several reports of non-injury m otor vehicle a c c id e n ts and unknow n injuries motor vehicle ac cidents. -MCSO received a report o f a non-injury hit and run involving a vehicle that hit a light pole and knocked it over behind Les Schwab in Heppner. -MCSO received a report o f a non-injury motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle that slid off the road. MCSO issued a citation to Roman J. Cisneros, 47, for violation o f the basic rule and no operator’s license. -MCSO received a report o f a jack-knifed semi at milepost 155 east bound. -MCSO received a driving complaint involving a semi going approximately 70 mph. -BPD received a re port o f a non-injury hit and run. -BPD received a re port o f an intoxicated driver at the Shell station in Board- man. -Boardman Fire De partment received a fire call involving a trailer on fire. MCSO, Boardman Ambu lance and BPD assisted. -Irrigon Ambulance received an EMS call in volving a motor vehicle ac cident with several injuries. The patients w ere tran s ported to Good Shepherd Hospital. -Irrigon Ambulance received a 911 call involving a female that was not breath ing. The patient was trans ported to Good Shepherd Hospital. MCSO assisted. Dec. 15: The Mor row County Sheriff’s Office received reports o f multiple automobile accidents with numerous vehicles off the road into the ditch and into the median as a result o f snow and ice. One rollover was reported. -M C SO re c e iv e d report o f three vehicles go ing west-bound in the east- bound lane on 1-82. -MCSO, Boardman Police Department received report o f sisters who were fighting and broke out a window at a Boardman resi dence. -MCSO received re port o f subjects in Irrigon not feeding their animals- four horses and a dog. The complaint was unfounded. -MCSO received re port o f two vehicles travel ing at a high rate o f speed on 1-84 with the road “a sheet of ice.” -MCSO received re ports o f juveniles sledding on Hill Street, making the street slicker. The trucks were upright and the drivers were digging them selves out. OSP was advised -MCSO cited Jerry R ichard C onklin, 41 for Driving While Suspended and Driving Uninsured. -MCSO received re port from an Irrigon resident that her mother, father and sister had not returned home at 5 p.m., when they had had an appointment that morn ing at 9 a.m. The reporter called back and said they had been located. -MCSO Undersher iff warned the driver o f a four-wheeler for driving at Heppner High School. -M C SO re c e iv e d report o f a four-w heeler driving on the streets o f Ir rigon. -MCSO received re port from an Irrigon man that his wife was supposed to be home at 1 p.m., but had still not returned at 8 p.m. She returned home. -B oardm an Police Department cited Fernando Ruiz Dominguez for Viola tion of the Basic Rule, 34 mph in a 25 mph zone, based on weather conditions. - BPD cited Josue G am aliel Huchin UC for following too closely, based on weather conditions. -BPD received re port from a Boardman sub ject that another man was driving to California with a load o f sweet potatoes, but had not been heard from since he was at a truck stop in Boardman. The report er w anted police contact reg ard in g pressing theft charges. -BPD received re port from a Boardman man who said his 22-year-old daughter assaulted him and pulled a knife on him and his wife the previous night. He said the daughter has mental problems and has been in treatment. -BPD arrested Lore- na Sanchez Perez, 22, on probable cause charges of Assault IV-Domestic Vio lence, two counts o f Menac ing, Harassment, Criminal M ischief III and Reckless E ndangerm ent. She was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $28,500 bail. -BPD received re port o f a male subject trying to assault another male with a broken broomstick. Dec. 16: M orrow C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice received report o f a roll over accident on 1-84. Fire department and ambulance were en route. -M C SO re c e iv e d report from a Heppner resi dent that a 77-year-old man fell and possibly broke his hip or pelvis. He was trans ported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital. -MCSO received re port from a female in Irrigon that she had been getting strange text messages from a male subject who wouldn't stop. -MCSO received re port from an Irrigon woman that her husband was as saulting her. MCSO, Board- man Police, Oregon State Police and Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded. It turned out to be unfound ed. -M C S O re c e iv e d report from a Lexington woman that someone had broken into her bedroom w indow and th ere w ere tracks at the scene. -MCSO received re port from a person in lone that a male subject was get ting ready to drive a car with no license and no insurance and the complainant wanted him stopped.
