What if every Or
egonian read the sam e
book for our state’s 150th
anniversary? In honor of
O regon's Sesquicenten-
nial, Oregon libraries are
collaborating on Oregon
Reads 2009, the first state
wide community reading
project.
Oregonians are in
vited to read S tubborn
Twig by Lauren Kessler.
Stubborn Twig is the true
story o f three generations
o f a Japanese American
family who settled in Hood
River. The book explores
the A m erican id e n tity
through the real stories of
people who lived through
the events surrounding the
attack on Pearl Harbor and
life afterwards.
Children can par
ticipate in Oregon Reads
too by reading Bat 6 by
Virginia Euwer Wolff or
Apples to Oregon by Deb
orah Hopkins. Apples to
Oregon is an original tall
tale recounting the journey
from Iowa to Oregon o f
Delicious and her family
-and their apple trees.
