T h irty -n in e team members enjoyed the 3.1 mile walk on a beautiful fall day, a direct contrast to last year where the rain did fall. After the walk, team mem bers lined up for the picnic lunch before heading off to partake o f unlimited rides at Oaks Park Historic Amuse ment Park. The team en joyed a fun day o f working and playing together, all for a worthy cause. B e t h ’s B u d d ie s collected over $3,600 to fund ongoing diabetes re search. Team members in dividually collected dona tions and the team put on a spaghetti feed earlier in Septem ber with proceeds going to JDRF. K id s o f all ages made up the team, which in cluded the lone High School sophomore health class. The sophomore’s participation in the Walk To Cure Diabetes was the first leg o f a two day field trip. The follow ing day, the class toured the B ioR esearch D epartm ent o f OHSU and the Shriner’s Hospital. Burman holds music workshop for Heppner students T h is w e e k , th e Mustangs’ moved up in the Oregon state 2A coaches poll from sixth place with 19 votes to fourth place w ith 32 votes. The Mustangs are currently nine wins and one loss for league play. Last week the Mus tangs traveled to Pilot Rock they got off to a slow start caused by some player ill n esses. But, a fte r som e ad ju stm en ts and a great serving show from Brandi Hong, the mustangs won the match 25-21,20-25, 10-25, and 19-25. Saturday the Mus tangs played Elgin at home, still short some players. Lenka Dobosova had the team high with 14 kills. Taighler Dougherty had 12 kills and Sherilyn Peck had 10. Maggie Armato had a team high o f 28 assists and Dobosova had 21 assists. This Thursday the M ustangs w ill m eet the Oregon State 2A # 1 ranked W esto n -M cE w en T ig er Scotts at home. It will be senior night and the vol leyball team w ill be holding a soup feed. Both the soup feed and the JV game will start at 5 p.m. The team hopes that everyone w ill com e and watch what could be their most exciting game all sea son. Mr. B urm an does classical Indian music from India. He has worked with George Harrison from the Beatles and Steve Smith from Journey. He has also done music for Tim Burton films. The Honkers suited up ju st 10 players but played tough. The win moves lone’s season record to 4-3 and their Big Sky mark to 3-1. A lthough the o u t come was never in doubt. Coach Dennis Stefani and his team really didn’t know w hat to expect from the Honker team who had de feated Condon/Wheeler the week before. But Coach Ste fani liked what he saw. “The kids responded well after the South Wasco loss,” he said. “ I was impressed with the play o f our line.” T he C ards d o m i nated from the start, putting up 34 unanswered points in class was represented by Princes Spencer Palmer and Sam King and Princesses Kathryn Strouse and Kaylee Helfrecht, and King Braden Britt and Queen Sherilyn Peck. The week was very successful as a whole, but the popular favorite was Nerd Day. Wednesday, was not only Nerd Day but the food eatin g co n test and the mud tug-o’-war. Nerd Day also received the most participation as far as dress up. Blue and Gold Day also had a lot o f success and was a fan favorite.
