FOUR - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 11,2008 lone Legion holds Memorial Day services On Memorial Day, the lone American Legion Post #95 and Auxiliary Unit held a Memorial Service Honoring W W 11 Veterans from lone who paid the ultimate price. As Legion members stood at ease at the lone Ball Field Memorial, a prayer was given by chaplain, Wayne Rietmann. Commander Bob Baker was master of ceremonies. As the veterans’ names were called by Irene Holtz, Legion Auxiliary President, an Auxiliary member or relative turned loose a set o f red, white and blue balloons in their memory. Honored were: Tench Aldrich, Herbert Davidson, Alfred Emert, Clarence Harris, Bobby Morgan and Paul Rietmann. The memorial wreath was then placed on the memorial and the Legion members were given the command to “Forward! March” back to the Legion Hall for a respectful disposal o f the American Flags which been worn and tom. With Legion members standing at attention. Commander Bob Baker, Adjutant Conrad Tworek and Chaplain Wayne Rietmann conducted the service. The lone America Legion Auxiliary Ladies served refreshments. Chris (Kit) Anderson, hav ing left HHS after freshman year, joined his former classmates with his wife Aletha from California. E v e ry o n e m et at The Bellagio lobby to get reacquainted, had lunch at C aesar’s Palace, then met for the reunion dinner at The Bellagio buffet. John Van Winkle wore a Heppner Mustangs ball cap for class spirit. Everyone met again on Sunday for brunch at the MGM hotel. Sincere condolences were expressed for their The Second Annual Irrigon M ulticultural Art Show and Auction will be held on Saturday, June 28th at A.C. Houghton Elemen tary School in Irrigon. This site was chosen for the event this year to provide more space for art exhibits and because of its proximity to the old school house. Doors will open to the public at 5 p.m. with a spaghetti dinner being served at 5:30 p.m. Bidding on the art to be sold will end at 7 p.m. with the winners to • be announced at 7:30 p.m.. “This is an excellent • opportunity to view some wonderful local art and meet the artists,” said a spokes person. “Judging from last year, this will also be a great opportunity to pick up some very fine works o f art.” fo rm e r c la s s m a te , Ivan Adlard, who passed away in The Dalles in December 2007. Rauch and fellow M ustang team m ate, Den nis Kenny, plan to continue th eir baseball careers at Linn-B enton C om m unity College next fall. 95th Annual fair promises to be ‘Hoof Poundin’ & Heart Pumpin’ Tne theme for the 95th Morrow County Fair is “ H oof Poundin' & Heart Pumpin’ Fun at the Morrow County Fair”. This year the fair has been picked as one o f the county fairs to have the second annual Oregon Fryer Commission's Big Cluck Grill-Off, on Thursday, August 14. The first-place winners will be going to state fair on Saturday, August 23 to compete. To enter the contest, go to www.oregonchickens.com. or contact the fair office for an entry form. There is an eight-team limit so people are advised to hurry and enter. Information is also available in the back o f the premium book. The premium book has some changes this year The first noticeable one is the cover, which will include the logos from the fair, the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo, 4-H and Future Farmers of America. Inside people will find that the Clothing, Needlework and Quilts/Comforter departments have been updated. Also they have added freezer jam and jellies to the canning department. There are some new contests and the Foods De partment has been updated. The Morrow Wheat Growers are sponsoring a new contest called “Make It With Morrow County”; this year’s recipe is Apple Wheat Cake. Also the Mike Armato family is sponsoring a Men's Bread Baking Contest in memory of Mike's un-ending quest for the prefect loaf o f bread. The fair still has the Oregon’s Best Competition and the Ball Fresh Preserving Contest for Youth and Adults. In the Art Department, a special award has been added this year in honor o f AARP’s 50th birthday. The group will be giving away a $20 cash/ gift card and award certificate for the best senior citizen art. There has also been an FFA section added to the book. The fair, 4-H and FFA sections are divided this year.
