95th Annual fair promises to
be ‘Hoof Poundin’ & Heart
Pumpin’
Tne theme for the 95th Morrow County Fair is
“ H oof Poundin' & Heart Pumpin’ Fun at the Morrow
County Fair”.
This year the fair has been picked as one o f the
county fairs to have the second annual Oregon Fryer
Commission's Big Cluck Grill-Off, on Thursday, August
14. The first-place winners will be going to state fair on
Saturday, August 23 to compete. To enter the contest, go
to www.oregonchickens.com. or contact the fair office for
an entry form. There is an eight-team limit so people are
advised to hurry and enter. Information is also available
in the back o f the premium book.
The premium book has some changes this year
The first noticeable one is the cover, which will include the
logos from the fair, the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo, 4-H and
Future Farmers of America. Inside people will find that the
Clothing, Needlework and Quilts/Comforter departments
have been updated. Also they have added freezer jam and
jellies to the canning department.
There are some new contests and the Foods De
partment has been updated. The Morrow Wheat Growers
are sponsoring a new contest called “Make It With Morrow
County”; this year’s recipe is Apple Wheat Cake.
Also the Mike Armato family is sponsoring a Men's
Bread Baking Contest in memory of Mike's un-ending
quest for the prefect loaf o f bread. The fair still has the
Oregon’s Best Competition and the Ball Fresh Preserving
Contest for Youth and Adults. In the Art Department, a
special award has been added this year in honor o f AARP’s
50th birthday. The group will be giving away a $20 cash/
gift card and award certificate for the best senior citizen
art. There has also been an FFA section added to the book.
The fair, 4-H and FFA sections are divided this year.
Premium books will be out in June, so look for
them at your local post offices.
