May 28, 2008 - THREE Morrow/Gilliam Counties Wheat Growers golf scramble to be held Willow Creek Country Club in Heppner has been chosen to host the 2008 Morrow/Gilliam Counties G olf Scramble. The golf scramble will be held on Thursday, June 12. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Teams w ill consist o f foursomes. All golfers must possess their own clubs. You do not have to have a team of four to play. Teams will be filled in as needed. The cost is $45 per player and includes lunch. G olf carts can be reserved by contacting the Willow Creek Country Club at 676-5437 by Thursday, June 5. There will be men’s and women’s team and in dividual awards, hole in one, raffle drawings and much more. Student receive perfect attendance awards from St. Patrick’s Parish Four students of St. Patrick’s Parish were recently given awards for perfect attendance by Fr. Gerry Con don. Garrett Gibbs received an award for Jr. High. His studies had followed the weekly Scriptural readings of the liturgy. Also receiving awards were Nacho Elguezabal, Justin Gutierrez and Joe Pranger in Sr. High. Their studies covered many parts of the Old and New Testaments. The catechetical classes were held each Wednesday through the school year. 8th annual TV Shoot held in lone lone kindergarteners teach class Child care June classes announced -Family Child Care Overview class will be held June 2 from 6-9 p.m. in Pendleton. This class is re quired by the Child Care Di vision for anyone wishing to become a Registered Family Child Care Provider, and for individuals that want to learn more about Oregon’s laws governing child care. CCD Certifiers will be on hand to talk about the rules and regulations and to ex plain the on-site Health and Safety Review process. The cost for this class is free. -R eco g n izin g and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect class will be held June 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Pendleton. This class is required by the Child Care Division for anyone wish ing to become a registered family child care provider and for DHS listed provid ers who want to qualify for the enhanced rates. It will cover Oregon’s mandatory laws and how to recognize child abuse and neglect. Come learn about the DHS listing and billing process. You will also find out how you can earn a higher reimbursement rate from DHS, and learn about other supports and resourc es. You can receive a free tool kit o f resources to help the children you care for be ready for school. Come meet other providers and bring questions you have about DHS Child Care. The cost for this class is free. -Shakin' and Bakin' with Kids class will be held June 19 from 6 :3 0 -8 :3 0 p.m. in H erm iston. C h il dren love to help with meal preparation but sometimes that is a challenge. Change the “ch allen g e into fu n ” with this interactive session. Participants will prepare snacks children will enjoy and incorporate physical movement to entice their appetite and motor develop ment. The cost for this class is free. The turnout was good and everyone enjoyed the day. Bill Breshears and his group from Damascus fixed lunch. The winner o f the TV Shoot was Les Madden from Portland. Clay pigeons were free for the younger ones to enjoy. Money made from this TV Shoot and the match from John VandenBrink makes possible the children’s 4th o f July celebration in lone. The contribution makes if possible for families to come spend the day with all the activities and games free. Tanna Padberg, Eric Orem, Brent Martin, Wayne Hams, Darcee Mitchell, Marlene Pointer, and Betty Gray are a few of the volunteers who make this event possible every year. Ladies Play Day results Ladies Play Day was held on Tuesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 8, at the Wil low Creek Country Club. A small garden area has been developed to honor the memory o f Sam Board- man, father o f the Oregon State Park System . Sam and his wife, Anna Belle, homesteaded the area that is now the community o f Boardman. Both Sam and Anna Belle were buried in the original Riverv iew Cem etery.
