Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, December 26, 2007 - THREE Greenhands initiated into Heppner FFA FFA and Garden Club create holiday decorations The Heppner FFA initiated Greenhands into their Chapter on Monday, December 17, at the high school. Applications being accepted for OSU Master Gardener Training Applications are cur rently being accepted for the 2008 OSU Master Gardener Training which will be of fered in Hermiston at the Hermiston Agriculture Re search and Extension Cen ter (HAREC). The classes, which begin January 16, will be on Wednesdays for a total o f eight weeks. Classes go from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. The class fee is $95 which in cludes the course textbook, “ S ustainable G ardening: The O regon-W ashington M aster G ard en er H an d book” (a $30 value). C la s s e s wi l l be Santa arrives early taught by OSU extension agents, specialists, and local experts. The program offers a basic, practical course in plant science and horticul ture. The class learned a lot from the wisdom of the ladies and gentlemen of the Garden Club and look forward to working with them in the future. Dec. 2Sth - Boardman Tilli- cum Club gives donation The ladies o f the Boardm an Tillicum Club “felt like Santa Claus” Tues day night when they gave $10,000 to Sam Boardman Elementary School teachers. During a special presenta tion at the school’s Winter Concert, Principal Johnson accepted a giant check on behalf o f the teachers. Many o f these teachers sustained personal loss o f supplies and eq u ip m en t d u ring a fire at the school early last sum m er, w hich were not covered by insurance. The Tillicum Club received the $10,000 from a grant through the Morrow County Needs and Issues program, a program which disperses tippage fees from Finley Butte Landfill. The grant was divided between the twenty six teachers w ho were impacted. The Boardman Tilli cum C lub, o rg an ized in 1945, is made up o f Board- man area women interested in fellowships and service to the Boardman Commu nity. They meet the second Tuesday of each month. The Tillicum Club would like to thank the Morrow County Needs and Issues Commit tee for m aking the grant possible. Gingerbread houses galore The University of Idaho’s December commence ment held Saturday, December 8, celebrated the accom plishments of 736 undergraduate and graduate students. Since its first commencement in 1896, the University o f Idaho has produced 93,893 graduates and has granted 101,105 degrees. Local graduates included: Jamie Elizabeth Vanden Brink o f lone, bachelor’s degrees in special education and elementary education; Jeremy Til Tullis of lone, bachelor’s degree in general studies; and Daniel Robert Jepsen, bach elor’s degrees in animal science and foreign languages.
