Columbia Basin w as not notified of any significant damages and said that the only the cause they could cite for the outages was high winds. Heppner Schools w ere closed for the day on Monday because o f the power be ing out. According to Executive- Director, Sandy F lick e r “ R e p rese n tativ e Smith showed incredible courage in the 2007 Legis lative Session in protecting the interests o f electricity ratepayers against incredible pressure.” Representative Smith served on the House Energy Committee and con sistently viewed potential legislation from a customer perspective. “ He is very Rep. («reg Smith knowledgeable about the en ergy issues affecting Orego nians and consistently tries to balance the needs o f the environment with the needs o f ratepayers,” said Steve Eldrige, General Manager of Umatilla Electric Coopera tive in Hermiston. The Cooperator o f the Year award is presented each year to an elected of ficial who has demonstrated their support o f electric co operatives. Representative Smith will be presented with this award by the Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association at their Annual Meeting December 6. The Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Asso ciation is a trade association o f I7 electric co-ops and rep resents the interests of co-op members in the federal and state legislative and regula tory arenas. Boardman Christmas Lighting Contest to be held The B oardm an Tillicum Club will once again sponsor the Board- man C hristm as Lighting Contest. Judges will be out the evening o f December 13 to view all the displays in Boardman, both residential and commercial. Cash prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Chevy Chase (most decorated), Tradition al Display, Best Theme, and Best Business. First place in each category will receive $25 and second place will receive $15. There will also be honorable m ention in each category.
