Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - THREE Algae advisory lifted for Willow Creek Reservoir lone students get crash course in insurance and etiquette The algae adv isory issued in mid-August for Wil low Creek Reservoir has been lifted, the U.S. Army Corps o f Engineers announced today. Recent water sampling confirms reduced levels o f a species o f blue-green algae that can produce toxins harmful to humans and animals, with the exception o f the northwest comer of the lake, which continues to return high algal cell counts. State guidelines recommend waiting two weeks after algal cell counts fall below state-specified levels before lifting advisories related to algae blooms. The Oregon Department o f Human Serv ices ad vises people who recreate in Oregon reservoirs to always be alert tor signs o f algal blooms. People and their pets should avoid water contact if there are v isible clumps of algae in the water. For local information, contact The Dalles, John Day, Willow' Creek Project at (541 ) 506-7802.
