Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August 29,2007 - FIVE Two prescribed burning for Juniper Management and Rangeland Health workshops announced OSU Extension and USDA Natu ral Resources Conservation Service from Cirant and Wheeler counties along with the Wheeler Soil and Water Conservation Dis trict and the Mid-John Day/Bridge Creek Watershed Councils are pleased to offer two “Prescribed Burning for Juniper Manage ment and Rangeland Health” workshops. The first workshop will be held Tuesday, September 11, at the Isobel Ed wards Hall at the W heeler County Fair grounds in Fossil. The second nearly identical work shop will be held Wednesday, September 12, at the Federal Building in the Juniper Room in John Day (431 Patterson Bridge Road). The duplicate workshops will host many qualified presenters which will discuss some of the following topics: *Overview o f the physiology o f juniper * Preparing rangeland for burning *O verall benefits o f burning to rangeland health *Pros and cons of prescribed burn ing * Permitting and Oregon Depart ment o f Forestry requirements '•‘Collaboration with neighbors: private landowners or agencies ■"Components o f a prescription * Rangeland Associations *How to manage liability issues There will also be a site tour in cluded in the Wheeler County workshop o f the Pine Creek Conservation Area 2006 bum. Refreshm ents will be available between 8:30 and 9 a.m. with the work shop starting promptly at 9 a.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Thanks to the NRCS for their generous contribu tion, there will be no charge to attend the workshop. For the Wheeler County workshop please RSVP by September 7 to the Wheel er County Extension Office at 763-4115 or to the Wheeler SWCD at 468-2990. For the Grant County workshop please RSVP by September 11 to the Grant County Extension Office at 575-1911. Colt Volleyball Program to be gin W illow C reek Sym phony & Singers to begin rehearsals R ehearsals for the Willow Creek Symphony and Singers will begin on Tuesday, September 11. Both groups rehearse each Tuesday at the Heppner Elem entary School band room. The sym phony re hearsal is from 6to 7:30, and the choir rehearsal is from 7:30 to 8:30. The groups will be preparing for Christ mas concerts to be held in Heppner and Arlington on December 1st and 2nd. C o n d u cto r o f the symphony and singers is R. Lee Friese o f Athena, and assistant conductor is Holly MacDonnell, music teacher at Arlington. All interested youth and adults are encouraged to join one or both groups. No auditions are required. The subject was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. -BPD received a re port of a male subject walk ing south and the reporter would like someone to make contact. The deputy made contact and advised that the subject was intoxicated and somewhat confrontational. A deputy advised the male to not return to the reporter's residence. -BPD arrested Leo- degario Sausedo Campos, 50, for DWS-M, revoked. The call was transferred to Umatilla County. -MCSO issued a ci tation to a male juvenile for minor in possession of alcohol. August 12: -MCSO received a report o f a suspi cious vehicle parked at the Willow Creek Apartments off and on for the past week. None o f the tenants knew who the vehicle belonged -MCSO received a call stating that the grand parents were refusing to bring back the rep o rter’s child that was visiting them. August 14: -MCSO received a report of a dog attacking another dog and severely injuring it. The reporter stated that the dog was lying in the field be tween the houses. -MCSO received a report regarding a subject that was cited for Theft II and III from his residence. The reporter stated that the subject Nvas hack again early this morning. -MCSO received a report of a little black Chi huahua mix dog that is often in the road and does not move. The reporter would like the owners warned. -M CSO received a call w ith the reporter stating that she thinks her daughter was abused nn hi le she was in Seattle. The reporter stated that she took her daughter against a court order. She brought her back to H ep pner.
