Oyster Feed prepared and served The Boardman City Council continued hearings Tuesday night, from June 19th, to consider adoption of the proposed Interchange Area Management Plan (IAMP) and a Transporta tion System Plan (TSP) Update. The City’s trans portation consultant, Carl Springer of DKS Associ ates, prepared the final draft proposals of the IAMP and the TSP. The goal of the plans are to develop an IAMP for the interchanges of 1-84 at Main Street and Laurel Lane to establish corrective measures which would ensure safe and ef ficient traffic movement of the interchange areas over a 20-year period. With an IAMP in place the City will also establish eligibility for state funding of future street projects. Several property ow ners, businesses, and oth er interested parties attended Tuesday’s meeting to testify as to the effect the plans may have on the community. Many had concerns of busi nesses being threatened by cutting off access to Front Street. Alternative sugges tions included widening the overpass at exit 164 and the off ramps and/or lengthen ing the offramps. Although Council ors did not adopt these draft plans as presented, they felt they were a good start on creating the final plans. Both hearings were con tinued indefinitely until the City, along with officials from the Oregon Depart ment of Transportation, the Department of Land Conser vation Development, and the public hav e held a workshop to “tweak" the current draft plans. A workshop date w ill be set during the August 21 st Council meeting. In other City news, the Council adopted an Or dinance rezoning 76 acres from Future Urban to Resi dential, where a developer plans a residential subdivi sion. An Ordinance was adopted concerning park ing semi-tractor trailer in residential zones. The Coun cil also adopted language changes to the Municipal Code pertaining to side walks and motor trucks. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Boardman City Council is Tuesday, August 21,2007 at 7 p.m. at Boardman City Hall.
