For the last two years Carroll has been the radiology manager. Carroll says that it has “been a good 10 years” and says she ap- Makayla Anderson lives a princess’ dream come true VOL. 126 NO. 32 10 Pages It seems that it is every little girls dream about being a princess. But it is a different kind o f prin cess that Makayla Anderson dreamed of being. Since she was a little girl, Anderson has wanted to be on the Mor row County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Court. She remembers seeing all the beautiful girls on the horses waving at the crowd and decided that she wanted to be one of those beautiful princesses. No dresses or frills, just chaps and spurs. Makayla Anderson is busy young lady. In fact, for this interview, she called from a combine she had been operating. Anderson is the 17-year-old daughter of Marcia and Larry Ander son of Boardman and has lived there since she was four years old. She has two sisters, Ashley, 15, who is serving as a pennant bearer this year, and Heather, 30. Anderson's horse is a registered mare quarter horse named Summer. She also has a bottle baby goat named Delilah, two dogs, a heifer named Lollipop, a steer named Monster, and a pig named Prissy. Anderson’s favorite experience from this year is when the princesses and queen camp out together and barbecue for parades and rodeos. It is during this time when they get to know each other the best. Her favorite outfit is a cream blouse w ith black jeans and chaps. In 2003 and 2004 Anderson was pennant bear er. She says she has many memories and new friends that w ill remain w ith her for years to come. For now, she and her hus band. Jerry, will be staying in the area and enjoying her retirement together. “All of us at the hos pital and clinic would like to wish her a very happy retirement,” said MCHD administration and staff. The health district welcomes Katie Walton to the radiology department as a radiologic technologist. W'alton recently graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology with a bach elor’s degree in radiologic science. She grew up in Long Creek, Oregon, the daughter of Paul and Sue Walton of Long Creek. Wal ton and her fiancé, Michael Duncan, are planning their wedding for September 1, 2007 and are in the process of relocating to the area. With Carroll retir ing, Melissa Pedersen will be taking the radiology man ager’s position. Pederson, r\ v S N 1 M / > w I Melissa Pederson and Katie Walton. who has been working with the district for the past two years, is licensed in radiol ogy and computed tomog raphy. “I grew up here and enjoy being ‘home’. My husband Olaf really likes it too,” said Pederson. “We re cently had a little girl. Halle, and are looking forward to raising our family here. Katie covered for me dur ing my maternity leave and I am glad she has decided to come on board here. Being a small town girl also, 1 know she will enjoy Heppner.” The radiology de partment offers general x-rays, computed tomog raphy, whole body CT scan and limited ultrasound. Princess Makayla with Summer. with the Cayuse Junior Ro deo and enjoys barrel racing and pole bending. She is in the FFA and is in the Mor row County Heifer Futurity Program. She has carried flags for the rodeo, is a part of the Desert Pegasus Horse Club, and has shown a steer in 4-H every year since fourth grade. She also sews and models clothing made from 100 percent Pendleton wool. Anderson, who at tends Riverside Jr./Sr. High School, plans to attend Blue Mountain Community Col lege and major in dental hy giene. She currently works for Double T Farms outside of Boardman. She is also planning on trying out for the court again next year. Sheriff’s office warns against door-to-door solicitors The Morrow County Sheriffs Office log recently reported some people walk ing around town attempting to sell magazines. According to reports, when the sale was refused, the solicitors became rude and vulgar with the customers. Heppner City Hall confirmed that the individuals did not have a peddler's license. The Morrow County Sheriff's Office advises that individuals approached by these solicitors should prob ably refuse the items for sale because the sheriff's office is not sure if the business is legitimate.
