After much preparation, a bone marrow stem cell transplant was completed on May 17 at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New' York City. R oy’s mother, Kay Proctor, is in New York w ith him. According to Kay, Roy’s progress is “miracu lous” and the whole family is very grateful for the sup port o f the community. The Heppner Lions Club held their an nual induction o f officers at the home o f Steve and Molly Rhea. Members celebrated with a potluck and barbecued steaks provided by members. District Governor Gerald Hopkins inducted the officers for the new year which began July l . Molly Rhea received a special plaque o f rec ognition for her work as president and James Fichter was honored as Lion o f the Year by the club for his involvement in all activities and club meetings. Past President Molly Rhea receives an outstanding presi dent's award from Governor Gerald Hopkins for work completed the past year. Local man earns degree from Montana State Samuel Van Liew, son o f Sandra and Dan Van Liew, Heppner, graduated May 12 from Montana Stale University in Bozeman, MT, w ith a bachelor o f science ing college. His immediate plans are to go to Alaska to work on a commercial salmon fishing boat. Van Liew graduated from Heppner High School in 2002. degree in ecology, majoring in fish and wildlife manage- ment.
