Photo by Chandra Arbogast Art Slate art exhibit set in Condon Local boy wins fishing derby with huge trout Greater Condon Arts A ssociation, a local arts agency based in Condon, in conjunction with the Gilliam County Cultural Coalition, will sponsor Art Slate '07, a Northwest regional multi- media art exhibition from Saturday, June 23, through July 6. A pproxim ately 80 works of art by Northwest artists have been selected by Henry Sayre, distinguished full professor of art history at Oregon State University. The grand opening reception will be Saturday, June 23, from 8-10 p.m. with live m usic and food. Admission is free. Mary Josephson, N orthw est artist w ith paintings in several public and private collections, will preside as judge and award presenter. The exhibition will be open to the public through Condon's Fabulous Fourth of July Celebration and will close on July 6. T he m eeting was called to order by Julianne C arlso n . The P ledge o f A lleg ian ce and the 4-H Pledge were recited. The club’s minutes from the last meeting were read by Rebecca Jepsen. The group discussed fin an ces, the upcom ing tractor training and weigh- in. It was agreed upon by the club to have Bill Jepsen worm the pigs at weigh-in. Cara Kennedy and Nick Christman have won the East Oregonian’s first- e v er W edding o f Your Dreams com petition. The winners were announced at a reception at the Pendleton EO office Saturday morning. The couple earned more than 1,200 votes from EO readers to claim the priz es, valued at m ore than $30,000. They'll be married on July 22, and all they basi cally have to do is be there. Christman, of lone, d ev elo p ed a cru sh on Kennedy when he was eight at W illow C reek B aptist Church in Heppner. It took him a few years to get up the courage to speak, however. Kennedy, who grew up in Lexington, first noticed him in seventh grade. “He w asn’t rowdy like the other guys,” she said of the first attraction. The couple grew up attending the same church, and they c o n sid e r th eir shared faith to be important to their relationship. A short break-up saw Kennedy tell ing Christman she would only resume dating him if he was serious about develop ing a future together. He was. While the two wanted to get married their senior year in high school, they decided to wait to make sure going away to college wouldn't make them grow apart. Christman has fin ished his second year at Whitman College in Walla Walla, majoring in electrical engineering. M eanw hile, Kennedy, who is studying physical therapy at Walla Walla Community College, took a term off to earn more money for school. Nick lives in a dorm at college while Cara resides in Milton-Free- water where she works for C h ris t man proposed to Kennedy, but not at the rom antic dinner she imag ined.
