SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 23,2007 lone Track and Field teams participate in LA state championships Members of the lone School track and field team recently participated in the IA state championships held at W estern O regon University in Monmouth on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19. R esults are as follows. Women lone placed 34"' as a team with 1 point earned. 4x100 relay: Kylee Svetich. Kaylee Palmateer, Sarah Stillman, and Tiana Camarillo placed ninth in the prelim s w ith a tim e o f 55.32a. Jav elin : K aylee Palmateer placed eighth in the finals with a throw of 90'. 8". Men lone placed 29lh as a team with six points earned. Javelin: Paul Hams placed third in the finals with a throw of 160’ 10”. High ju m p : C lay Morter placed ninth with a jump of 5’ 10.00”. Long ju m p : Paul Hams placed 11"' with a jump of 17’ 10.25”. HHS student to play in Oregon East-West All-Star Football game Quinn Peck has been selected as an alternate to play in the Oregon East- West All- S t a r F o o tb a ll gam e on Saturday, August 4, in B aker C ity. He w ill be replacing a player Quinn Peek who was selected but now cannot play. 60 players and 60 alternates, 30 for each team, are selected by nomination. The gam e is recognized nationally as the number one fund-raiser of its kind, in the North American continent, for the Shrine Hospitals for Children. The players come from Class 1 A, 2A, 3A, and 4A graduated seniors. In 2006 $87,255.92 was raised for the Shrine Hospitals. This year the game will be televised in 5 states by FOX SPORTSNW for the 3rd year in a row. S ev en teen piano students recently completed piano syllabus adjudications sponsored by the Oregon Music Teachers Association. C om pleted levels are as follows: Level I: Cade Arbogast, Cara A rbogast, Kai Arbogast, Diana Healy, Kaelyn Lindsay, Amanda Rea, Em ily Rea, and RJ Skaggs; Level II: Jonathan Chen and Stacee Halvorsen; Level III: Jessica Hamilton, Kelsey Wolff, and Bethany Van C leav e; L evel IV: S tep h an ie S c h u le r and Daniel Van Cleave; Level V: Sarah Stillman; Level VIII: R ebecca Jep sen . The students were required to play three memorized pieces in addition to scales, chords, arpeggios, sight reading, and ear training. Teachers of the students include Chandra A rb o g ast, C am eron A n d erso n , K risten Van C leav e, and M yrna Van Cleave, all of Heppner, and S h irley B red lin g er o f Portland. The Funrunners ATV Club of Hermiston made and dedicated banners of the Park's logo for their use in promoting the park and ATV riding in general. The Morrow County Parks Dept, and volunteers have worked hard for several years now in building and maintaining the Mt’OHV Park out of Heppner. The Funrunners have enjoyed their efforts and wanted to contribute to their cause and show their appreciation. Wylie Smith III Memorial S c h o la rsh ip at the 75lh Annual Fernhopper Honors and Awards Banquet. Johnny Collin, a Forest Engineering m ajor, is one of these re c ip ien ts. C ollin is a g raduate o f lone High School. The C. Wylie Smith III Memorial Scholarship was established in 1973 in memory of C. Wylie Smith 111, who lost his life in an industrial accident at the age of 29. He was one of the founders o f C oos Head Lumber Company which had milling operations in Coos Bay, Oregon. He was a 1966 O regon State U niversity graduate from the College of Forestry. T his sch o la rsh ip fund is administered by the O regon State U niversity Foundation and recipients are chosen by the Coos Chapter Society of American Foresters. Recipients of this scholarship must be full-time u n d erg rad u ate stu d en ts enrolled in the College of F orestry w ith m ajors in Forest Engineering, Forest M anagem ent, or Forest Products. First preference is given to students from Coos, Curry, or Douglas counties. Selection is based on proven scholarship perform ance, potential for success in the profession, and financial need. Sheep Rock auto tour offered A John Day Fossil Beds National Monument park ranger will lead a «fossil beds auto tour on Saturday, May 26. This two-hour tour will travel along some of the back roads of the national monument and feature the geologic landscape and fossil history of the area. The tour will begin at 2 p.m. at the Sheep Rock U n it’s T h o m as C ondon Visitor Center, located near Dayville. Participants will need to bring th eir own vehicle, and good tires are recommended. Meals in the Summer Food S erv ice Program through the U.S. D epart ment of Agriculture (USDA) are free of charge to all eli gible migrant children at tending summer school. To be eligible to receive free meals, a child must meet the guidelines for enrollment in the Migrant Education Sum mer School Program (con tact the Migrant Education Department for eligibility requirement information). Meals will be provid ed at the following Migrant Education Summer School sites: Stanfield Elementary School in Stanfield June 4- 29. Breakfast is from 8-9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A.C. Houghton Ele mentary in Irrigon June 12- July 10.
