On Sunday night M arch 25, 2007 M orrow County FFA Chapter Mem ber P atrick B arron was awarded the Oregon State FFA Sheep Proficiency after com peting at the Oregon FFA Convention held in Cor vallis. Oregon March 24 thru 27. Patrick was selected from a field of District FFA Sheep Proficiency winners throughout Oregon. Barron’s supervised a g ric u ltu ra l e x p erien ce sheep project actually start ed in 1998 from two ewes he raised while participating m the 4-H program. When he became a freshman at Ir- rigon High School he rolled Ins 4-H project into the FFA. His FFA project has grown to 34 Suffolk ewes, one Suf folk ram and two guard Lla mas. From its humble begin nings his FFA sheep project earned a net worth of over $12,000. B a rro n ’s SAE project also includes experi ence areas in beef produc tion. home and farm im provement and work expe rience. B arron, a so p h o more is the current president of his FFA c hapter and is ac- tive in livestock judging, leadership and shop skills. At school he has a 3.28 grade point average and competes on the Irrigon Knight’s Bas ketball team. He is very ac tive in community service through the Irrigon Knight’s Booster Club. Barron is involved in the M orrow C ounty 4-H program as a 4-H Ambassa dor and shows sheep in both 4-H and FFA. At home he is busy with his sheep flock which produced 60 lambs in February. He sells part of his lam bs as 4-H and FFA project lambs and markets the rest as feeder lambs to a commercial broker in June. Barron’s FFA Sheep Profi ciency Application will be forwarded onto the FFA re gional contest and if select ed will compete at the Na tional level. “Patrick is a leader and a rising star in the FFA he has accomplished a lot in his short tenure with the program.
