SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April Evangelists to speak at Christian Life Center Pieter and JoAnne Bos, co-founders of Kings C om m issio n s M inistries In te rn a tio n a l, serv in g presently as missionaries, teachers and evangelists w ill be at Christian Life Center, 535 W. M organ S t., in Heppner April 8-11. Pieter will preach Easter Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. He will also preach Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Pieter and JoAnne have been in v o lv ed in ministering and counseling to people w ith life c o n tro llin g p ro b lem s, te ach in g p ra c tica l evangelism and discipleship, lead ersh ip tra in in g , and m arriage and fam ily re la tio n sh ip sem inars throughout the U.S. and over 15 nations worldwide. Each possesses an unw avering com m itm ent, c o m p assio n , and genuineness in their personal lives and m in istry , said Christian Life Center Pastor Tim Van Cleave. Their ministry style com bines solid preaching and teaching from G od's word with mentorship. They have been married over 23 years and have two children, Jamie and Heidi. Pieter was born in Holland, and was raised in a Dutch Reformed home. His desire to become involved in ministry and missions started when he was about 10 years old, while he was attending a Sunday School class where missionaries were talking about their experiences on the field. A ccording to a news release, having been raised under ex trem ely difficult circumstances and after a period of teen age rebellion, he forgot about his vision, but God didn’t. When God regained his a tte n tio n , he re com m itted his life to the Lord, and was baptized with the Holy Spirit. Before long Pieter was involved in a Pentecostal church and in inner-city ministry. A few years later he married an American girl w ho w as raised in a M ennonite hom e, and worked with Youth With A Mission in Amsterdam. The Netherlands (Holland.) In 1983, said the release, with the blessings of their home church, the Lord directed them to go to the U.S. Upon arrival in the U .S. P ieter has taught practical evangelism and d iscip lesh ip in different schools, youth groups and ch u rch es of vario u s denominations. He w orked as a counselor, over 4,(XM) hours, and teach er at the Teen Challenge Training Center in P en n sy lv an ia, a state licensed ministry. (The first Teen Challenge Training Center was started by the Rev. David Wilkerson.) As a fa c ility / program/area director in the ministry of Teen Challenge in W ashington, a C hristian discipleship m inistry for people with life controlling problems, including drugs and alcohol. As a pastor and an evangelist with a heart for missions, Pieter is a minister o f the D utch V.P.E., Pentecostal, Fullgospel and Evangelical church, and is also ordained with the A/G in the U.S. He earned a doctor of ministry degree from Omega Seminary. He says that throughout the years God has opened many doors for m inistry in the U nited S tates, South America, India, Africa and in European countries. The public is invited to attend these meetings. May 3 National Day of Prayer The 2007 National Day of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 3. Everyone is invited to attend a prayer meeting at the St. Patrick's Senior Center cafeteria from 12:15-12:45 p.m. This is a Judeo-Christian prayer meeting. Prayers will focus on church, education, family, government and media. This is the 55th year of the National Day of Prayer. According to a press release, last year it is estimated over two million people attended over 40,000 events that began at dawn in Maine and ended at sunset in Hawaii. Marriages The County Clerk’s Office at the Morrow County Courthouse in Heppner released the following marriage license information: March 27-Kelly Lou Jones, 36, Heppner, and Lorraine Marie Staples, 48, Heppner. 4, 2007 MC School District dropout rate Joint concerts to feature orchestra, symphony and singers falls to 1.7 percent T hree o f the five musical ensem bles which make up Inland Northwest Musicians w ill join together for concerts in Enterprise on Saturday, April 14. at 7 pm and in Heppner on Sunday, A pril 15, at 4 pm. The groups include the Wallowa Valley Orchestra, Willow C reek Sym phony and Willow Creek Singers. The Enterprise concert will be in the Enterprise High School gymnasium and the Heppner co n cert in the H eppner Elem entary auditorium . Each orchestra will perform separately and will then join together for some pieces and will be joined by the singers. The g ro u p s are under the leadership of R. Lee Friese of Athena who is m usic d ire c to r and co n d u cto r of Inland Northwest Musicians. Friese is a ssisted by asso ciate conductor Dane Mickelson of Wallowa and by associate conductors, Karl Blaeuerof lone and Holly MacDonnell o f A rlin g to n . All three associate conductors are music teachers in the schools w here they live. The Wallowa Valley Orchestra rehearses in Wallowa School and W illow C reek Symphony and Singers in H eppner E lem entary. "Inland Northwest M usicians m em bers are volunteers who rehearse and perform for love o f the musical experience, often traveling lengthy distances to rehearsal and concert sites at their own expense," said a spokesperson. “Concerts are presented free to the public with donations accepted. Expenses for the groups, such as m usic and hall rentals, staff and office costs and tra n sp o rta tio n o f equipment, are covered by income from donations at c o n ce rts, su stain in g memberships by supporters, sponsorships by businesses, industries and other groups, and o ccasio n al g ran ts. Inland Northwest Musicians has as its goal the bringing of fine music to all the cities and towns of the region at no cost to the community members." A recep tio n w ill follow each concert to allow the audiences to greet the musicians. District totals fell from 3.4 percent in 2004-05. Likewise, our board goal to keep students involved in ex tra and c o -c u rric u la r opportunities has also helped retain students in our school systems. Refreshments will be served after the program. AWANA is a non- denom inational Christian B ible club for kids in kindergarten through the sixth grade. Leaders from sev eral ch u rch es are in v o lv ed w ith the local group. Attendance for the year has averaged about 50 clu b b ers each T hursday night.
