Living with Grief: Before and After the Death, will be held Thursday, March 22, from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adven tist Church in Heppner. HFA'S 2007 telecon ference will explore the most current theoretical perspec tives on loss and grief as ex ness and by survivors after the death. A particular focus will be on areas where un derstanding of grief has been challenged. The program will be useful to a range of professionals who provide bereavement counseling or work with the bereaved. This teleconference is ideal for psychologists, health care workers, funeral directors, educators, teach ers and school-based person nel. The information w ill also be helpful to individuals who offer education on loss, grief, dying or death. Pioneer Memorial Hospice is sponsoring the teleconference. April 5 from 4-8 p.m., Friday, April 6 from 9-11 a.m. and Tuesday, April 10 from 4-8 p.m. Parents may pick up report cards and visit with teachers during these times. Port Manager Gary Neal said the funding w ill be used to extend water, wastewater and sanitary lines into the East Beach Industrial Park, clearing the way for development of the site. The Port is in final discussions with several businesses interested in locating at the site, Neal said. “This investment by the state and the Port will directly lead to new jobs for our people in our region,” Neal added. The total cost of the project is $2.864.353, including $364,353 provided by the Port. The work is scheduled for completion by the end of May. "The type of work our YCC crews accomplish include noxious weed re moval, wildlife habitat im provement, slash piling, trail and campground mainte nance.” said Tom Mafera, Heppner District Ranger. The eight-week pro gram begins June 25, 2007 and ends August 17. 2007. Participants will be paid the current Oregon minimum wage per hour. Applications will be accepted from Thursday, March 22, through 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. Partic ipants will be selected on a random basis on April 18 at 4 p.m. No previous experi ence is required. Applicants must be 15 years old and not reach age 19 during the term of employment in the pro gram, and have a social se curity number, or have made application to obtain one. Applicants must also obtain parental or legal guardian consent to enroll in the pro gram. Applicants must be able to provide transporta tion to and from the Hepp ner District Office. The For est Service will provide transportation from the Dis trict Office to the Field work site. Applications may be obtained at the Heppner Dis trict Office or at local high schools. It was discussed and decided that it will be held at Jeanette Padberg’s home at 340 N. Gilmore, Heppner, on Thursday, April 5, at noon rather than at the Methodist Church. The cost is $5 per person to cover the food. Diann Nagel will be catering the event. The menu will include meat, standard watercress sandwiches, fresh homemade scones, fresh homemade curd, clotted cream, dessert, tea, and coffee. Red Hat Rowdies is open to everyone.
